BNS + Coventry chaining problems + Idiots Guide 30/03/2014 at 11:34 #58019

Firstly I'm Cardiff Bluebird, I'm from Cardiff and I'm a Train Guard with everyone's favorite train operator!.

I've been a very keen sim'siger for years now, and I'm very excited to be in a position to download the Birmingham New Street and Coventry Simulations!
Seeing as I used to be a Guard going into and out of New for 8 years, this is time for me to actually get my train out NS on time! lol

One question I've been struggling with for years without success is chaining two simulations together.
I'm sorry, and I'm sure this has been asked several times before, but the ones I've seen, I haven't been able to make it work myself.

What I'm looking for is a step by step idiots guide to chaining BNS and Coventry or Bristol and Gloucester?

Like:
1) Launch BNS Simulation.
2) Launch Coventry Simulation.
3) etc etc

I hope you guys and take pitty on me and helpe me out

PS: When two simulations are chained together how are they displayed on screen? Is there a continuous scroll through the simulations, or two sets of menu and train describer above the paged simulation window?

Regards

CFBB

1. Launch Birmingham New Street in Server mode. Use port 50505. To start in Server mode, start a new game as normal, and on the last page of options tick 'Run as a server'
2. Launch Coventry in Server mode. Use port 50507.
3. In Coventry, click 'Multiplayer' in the clock window, and select 'Connect to External Signalbox'
4. Highlight 'Birmingham New Street', enter the ip address 127.0.0.1, and port 50505. Ensure 'Synchronise time' is ticked.
5. Click 'Connect'
6. In Birmingham New Street, a box will appear asking you accept the connection from Coventry. Click 'Accept'
7. Enjoy! The simulations are now chained together, and trains will pass between the two simulations in the Hampton-in-Arden area. Since we connected Coventry to New Street, New Street controls simulation speed and pausing.

Notes:

The ip address 127.0.0.1 is for connecting to a simulation on the same computer. If you want to connect to another computer on the same Wi-Fi (or other) network, you'll need to find the internal ip of that computer. This address appears when you start the game in server mode.

That's great, thank you sir !

I will be trying to run the two on the same screen, so will there be one long scroll through NS sim then into Coventry or will the slave sim (Coventry) run in its own window behind the master ?

Each will run in their own window - as far as each sim is concerned once it is connected it is just the same wherever the sim it is talking to is run from, it just so happens that it is running on the same machine.

I don't think Barnes even exists, so it cannot chain to COV

(BNS = Barnes. BHM - Birmingham New Street)

Would I input port 50505 for the Wolverhampton simulation ? I use the same IP I assume ?

Each sim needs to be on a different port.

So if you have say New Street, Coventry, and Wolverhampton, one needs to be on 50505, one on 50506, and one on 50507.

each simulation needs to have a different port number - for third and subsequent simulaitons you click the 'Custom' radar button and type the custom port number in the adjacent little box - this defaults to 50509

As suggested I used another port number, and all three are chained and working correctly! Awesome, £40 well spent just need to square it with the Mrs now !

Cheers.
