I'm running SimSig on a HP Pavilion DV7 notebook with a 17.5 inch, 1920 x 1080 display which is wider than many similar displays. By and large this is a satisfactory Windows 7 machine apart from a number of minor quirks due to HP's design. My problem is that static text and button titles are truncated on this display. I've tried every trick I know to vary the resolution but haven't been able to fix it. My previous machine was a NEC Versa running XP, with a 15 inch screen, and as far as I recall (this was some years ago) all these windows displayed properly.  "Mark unentered", "Hide unentered trains"  "Seed trains", "Delay, mins (negative means e?" "Options will only apply to trains that have not yet ?"  "allowance, Pos, Activities" "St Davids (DMU S075)" is cut off at bottom Widening these windows by dragging the edges horizontally does not help. I've tried changing the Custom Text Size (DPI) from 125 (current) to 100% but this has not made any difference here, though it makes all the messages and other text much smaller, almost too hard to read. Looks like a dpi issue to me. A lot of apps don't take the dpi setting into account. Remember if you change your dpi (in windows) it only takes effect once you've logged out and back in again. Log in to reply |

With the screenshots being Exeter, then it's on latest core code so the issue shouldn't (hopefully!) exist. This isn't something that has suddenly occurred, and I agree with peterb that this is likely to be caused by the same problem raised in my earlier thread. Maybe I should have appended it to the earlier thread, but I thought there might be a difference and was hoping other forum members might have this problem too. And since my earlier thread I've tried more sims and watched to see if there is a pattern to all this. Maybe it's an issue specific to HP Pavilion users. Anyone out there getting the same problem? This might help narrow it down to the graphics card or the operating system. I'm reluctant to reinstall Windows 7, as you can understand, particularly on a laptop. It occurs on pre-loader sims as well as on loader sims. I've got a HP Pavilion DV6 laptop and have no issues what so ever. I've got access to another couple of HP Pavilion laptops but I can't remember the exact model, and neither had the issue. It's the DPI setting, that or some kind of font size scaling. Older sims only display correctly at 96dpi.
