Hi all,

This morning I commented on a Facebook group in reply to some photos that had been posted of Guildford panel. The photos had been taken back in 2013. I said that the area covered by the Guildford PSB "would make a good one-player SimSig setup if it was ever developed."

I have just found a reply to that comment which says that "There is a Guildford SimSig but I believe it is one based before this panel was commissioned."

If this is the case does anyone still have it? I wouldn't mind a look at it.

Cheers,

Dave

There's never been a SimSig Guildford. One of the other suppliers has one I believe.

To be brutally honest, Guildford wouldn't be a terribly exciting sim unless a repetitive clockface timetable with precious few unusual moves and virtually no freight is your thing. An older timetable would be rather more interesting, though...

However, it would be a perfect size sim for a single player of modest ability.

As an aside, a few years ago I downloaded a trial of a Guildford sim from a competitor. I can't remember why. In the few minutes I had with it, it confirmed everything I suspected ;-)

Yes I was thinking it would make a good training sim for a single-player.

Southampton is (and, I daresay, quite a few other smaller sims are) already pretty good for that - much more freight and with level crossings to keep it interesting, but small area and missing some of the harder-to-manage features (ground frames, level crossing penalties and phoning shunters, not to mention equipment failures...) - could still do with an update, though, of course ;)

That's not to say I'm not all for increasing SimSig coverage no matter where (especially if it chains to something else), but I can understand if Guildford isn't very high up the priority list.

Mind you a Guildford, Working (including the Alton line) and Basingstoke (mainline panel) combined would be a rather tasty sim?

Especially when the Waterloo Refresh is done, and maybe one day that can be chained to Wimbledon, Feltham, Woking, Basingstoke and Eastleigh! That would be an awesome mega chain! :xmas

I'll stop dreaming now...

Sorry guys, I am in the business of making people wait!

Then Salisbury and Reading to chain the whole of that lot to the Western sims. Oxford hooks that lot in to Marylebone. Sort out the Gloucester/Saltley/New St chaining issues and add Leamington. Then just add Derby, Walsall & Nuneaton (including the boxes on the Coventry branch) and you've just got the bulk of England in a single giga-chain!

And when NLL is refreshed it should be able to chain to Marylebone, Euston and KX.

And St Pancras, Fenchurch Street, Wembley Suburban.

I'm guessing that lot would be a bit of struggle for a single player (just thinking aloud)

Fenchurch Street would also need revising, and there's the added difficulty of the (current) simulated area actually being duplicated slightly between the two.
