How to force a train to enter area? 17/06/2014 at 12:57 #61754

Train A has arrived (30 mins late) at a platform where it is supposed to join Train B. Train B is supposed to enter from a nearby siding from which a route can be set to A's platform. Fortunately this route requires two track segments.

The time for B's arrival passes but B, like an absconding groom does not appear, leaving A at the altar. There is no call from a shunter or other announcement. I set a route out of the siding, stopping short of the last segment to avoid a call-on error message, so the way is prepared; still no sign of B.

I check the timetable. B is listed as being yet to appear. I edit its timetable, advancing its arrival time to one minute after the current time. I also check "Enter on time" in F4 > Train Details. Still no damn train. I try re-editing B's timetable and advancing its entry time just a little ahead of the current time. As each deadline passes, still no train.

What the hell to do next, short of Abandon Join?

Check the rules? Chances are there's one to stop B from entering until X minutes after A arrives at Y.

Which timetable are you using, and what's the train concerned?

What to do next is to think what else might be stopping Train B entering.

As a couple of suggestions:

  • On the front tab of the train TT there is a box marked delay. If this has a positive integer displayed, then the train will enter that number of minutes late.

  • Is there a rule (or more than one rule) precluding the train from entering until some other event has taken place.

If the train is governed by rule and you have had to do something that stops the conditions of the rule being met (for example by removing a train which is one of the conditions of Train B entering) you have to delete the rule from the TT before Train B will enter. "Removing a train" may not just have been using the Hand of God to take out that train. If you have removed a train which is an earlier link in the chain leading to that train referenced in the rule then the rule conditions can not be met.

As ever, if you put up a save of the sim where the problem is happening, it will be far easier for other people to suggest what may be causing the problem.

Edit - still typing while others were posting!

Good suggestion, but no rules in Rules section applying to Train A or B (in this context).

Train B finally appeared. I suspect this was because I made sure "Enter on time" was checked and also set Delay to 0.

As I got it to work I won't bother posting a saved game but will do so if it recurs. I think I know how to fix it now. Thanks for all suggestions.

That's all very well but prima-facie there is somthing not quite right, or at least which need explainaing, if not for you then others. You may have uncovered a hitherto undetected error.
