Running Wembley Mainline, but this may apply to other or all sims.
I have made changes to the timetable and/or rules, and saved the corrected TT in place of the original.
I then restart the sim, at a time earlier than the affected trains enter, but no changes are apparent. All details as in original. How can I make permanent changes to TT and rules?

For altered timetable entries to take effect, you need to exit the sim completely and restart it from scratch.

You need to start a brand new game.

When you start a new simulation, the timetable is 'copied', used in the game and then saved as part of the saved game. When you load a saved game, you aren't reloading the .WTT file, you're just loading the copy that was made at the start of the game.

That's how I understand it, open to correction by people who know what they're talking about! There's an attempt to explain it on the wiki

The situation is a little more complicated than that as it is easy to get the TT the sim is running and the TT on the hard disk out of sync.

When you are running SimSig you start with a copy of the TT on your hard disk. The data in the full TT is loaded into the sim when you start a new "game". If you edit the TT during the run, that data is retained in the sim and if you save the game then the edited data is held in the save. However, until you save the edited TT, the version of the TT on your hard disk retains the original data. That means that unless you save both game and TT you have something labelled TTv1 on your hard disk which contain different data to something labelled TTv1 in the saved game.

You can lose sync between the sim and hard disk versions of the TT if you save the TT but don't save the sim. Then when you reload from the last save, your hard disk has the edited TT but the sim has the unedited version. [Edit] If you save the TT from the sim at that point using the existing TT name, you overwrite the edited version on your hard disk with the unedited version from the sim. [/Edit] You get the same sort of effect if you save the sim but not the TT before closing down.

Following on from that point, if you make some more edits to the TT then save it, what you are doing is taking the TT version from the sim (i.e. the unedited version), making some changes to the unedited version and then saving over the top of the previously edited version. That means you lose the previous edits.

I know it all looks and sounds very complicated but you avoid the problems if you save both game and TT whenever you make any edits. That way loading the saved game brings you the edited TT rather than having a mismatch between saved TT and game.

If you reload a saved game from any time before the TT editing, the data in the save is as for the unedited TT so I don't think you can edit a TT then load a game from the pre-edited stage and see the amended TT. You would have to amend the TT in the earlier save rather than editing in a later save and going back. You can make the changes permanent from that time in the sim by saving both TT and game after the editing has taken place.

As a final point, once a TT has been edited and saved any new game will bring the edited data from that TT and no previous data will be carried forward.

Edit: People were busy posting while I was busy trying to write waffle

Hi all, I used to have the same problem with saving altered TTs when I started in Simsig.
Now, when I make any changes that I want to make permanent, when I exit a session and get the 'Timetable Not Saved' box, I click 'yes' and give the TT a new title such as 'Amend1', and then open that one for subsequent sessions. I found that if I make further changes in subsequent sessions, I just keep over-writing to the 'Amend1' TT. I think I'm agreeing with what Postal has posted, I'm just rubbish at explaining.
Mal.
