Hi all, not sure if this has been raised before, my apologies if so. I'm unsure how to produce and load a screenshot in the event of a sim query.
Many thanks as usual for assistance.
Mal.

Not sure how others do it and I'm sure there will be a quicker and easier way...

Pause the sim
"Print Screen" button on keyboard
Then open a new file in any image editing software you may have on your computer
Paste & crop as necessary
save file
upload file

Hope that helps and makes some sense to you Mal

To expand slightly: Paint (included with all Windows computers) is perfectly suitable. After pressing the 'Print Screen' button, open Paint and click Paste. Then click the 'select' button, and click and hold the mouse to draw a rectangle around the relevant part of the screen shot. Then click 'crop' to remove everything outside the rectangle and save. This is for the version of Paint supplied with Windows 7- other versions may be different.

Starting from Vista, there's also the Snipping Tool.
Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.

Right click in an empty area of the sim --> save bitmap will also work, but I'll warn you that bitmaps tend to be quite large in filesize as they're completely uncompressed, so I'm not sure that the forum software will actually accept them without first converting to a PNG...

Feature request: PNG save support?

Whatever you do, don’t save it as a JPEG as that’s designed for photos. It’ll make the screenshot look washed-out with strange blocks all over it and the file size will still be larger than if you saved it as PNG.

For what it's worth, I've used Techsmith's Jing (freeware) to take screen captures and save them in .png format, then load them into Paint.NET (freeware) for any further editing such as adding signal IDs, then upload them using TinyPic or similar image hosting service, and selecting "IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards" for including in SimSig posts. The format appears something like

I agree, don't use .jpg files. PNGs are much sharper.

Yep, png or gif for graphics like SimSig (/IECC/MCS/Westcad), and jpg/png for photos. Even the bog standard Paint that comes with Windows can convert from bmp to gif/png easily.

Right click in SimSig and save bitmap will only save the track graphics, not any windows such as the timetable editor / F2 etc.

CTRL+Printscreen will grab the whole computer screen not just an active window

Useful if trainlist or messages is relevant

Pressing CTRL is not required, only ALT provides a different functionality.
