A friend and i wanted to play multiplayer on Waterloo but are having trouble.

If i am the host i set up the multiplayer and give him the port number (which i assume you just give him the number displayed next to 'primary' and i give him my ip address, but when he puts those details in his end it always comes up ''disconnected from the server''

We have tried it the other way round as him as the host and the same happens, do you know what we are doing wrong?

I suspect it's a "port-forwarding" issue, in brief the hosting router needs to know where/which PC to forward the incoming connection to.

Port forwarding in the WIKI explains what it's about, but don't hesitate to ask for help here. Once sorted, the effort is time well spent.

PS Forget to say "Welcome to SimSig".

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

could a feature request be made to add UPnP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Plug_and_Play) which in the majority of cases would negate the need to do manual port forwarding?

Not sure about the majority of cases. Quite a lot of routers have it disabled by default because they believe it's a security risk (aka people relying on NAT which wasn't designed for the task as opposed to getting a decent firewall).

Also, who is your ISP? If it is Virgin, there is a known issue with port forwarding on Virgin, even if you set it up correctly, it often refuses to work.

Hope this is of use,
Jamie.

Really? I must say I've never had problems. Is it maybe only with some models of the SuperHub?

Or your external IP address for that matter. Both can change.
