Hello,

When running a sim that has ARS enabled, press F3 to go into the options, select the 'Display' tab and near the bottom you'll see a box for 'Train describer mode'. Change this to 'Delay' vice 'ARS state' and you will have your coloured headcodes representing the delay.

Kind regards,

James

As J5flyer said, it's only available on simulations with ARS. That is: Fenchurch, Liverpool Street, Peterborough, Marylebone, Edinburgh, Motherwell, Paisley, Victoria Central, Victoria South Eastern, Waterloo, Wimbledon, Swindon, Drain and Victoria LUL.

With non-ARS sims, the delay value is only updated when the train passes a timing point. So if a train got stuck somewhere, it would still be showing as "on time" or whatever its old delay was, until it would start moving again and pass the next timetable location, where the delay would then finally get updated.

ARS on the other hand needs some kind of real-time delay information in order to properly decide which train gets priority at a junction in case of conflicts. Therefore ARS sims contain some additional data which allow the sim to interpolate passing times for all signals/train describer berths, so the current delay can be estimated no matter where the train is (although that estimate isn't necessarily 100 % correct, especially in case of long signalling sections).
And if thanks to ARS that real-time delay information is available anyway, you might as well use it to power the CCF-style coloured train describers.

Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.
