Hi,

Has anyone run into ACI intermittently not working on the Modern layout?

Haven't run into it on the old layout, but I'm currently at about 10:20am in the 2014 TT, and trains arriving at Moorgate, Hertford North and Welwyn Garden City are occasionally not having their next runs automatically entered. It worked fine in the first few hours of the sim and has just started to fall away a bit. Not the first time I've run into this, and on a different TT, but the modern layout each time.

I've tried cycling the ACI off and on, and it doesn't seem to matter if the trains are routed to the correct platforms or not.

Haven't been able to reproduce for a save just yet, as it only happens some of the time (unpredictable). Will try again when I get home from work if it's not a known issue.

Cheers

I was having the same kind of problem with Victoria Central recently (post). The issue seems to be when a headcode that is longer than four characters is interposed using just the first four characters (e.g. interposing 2C01 instead of 2C01-1). Initially it was determined that it was just me being lazy when I was interposing headcodes, but I have done a bit more testing and it does seem that the ACI itself sometimes does it too. I was not able to find out what the pattern was (if any).

Thanks for that! Might shed some light on the situation...

See this thread and in particular:

Possibly a long shot (maybe 2):-
Could it be related to trains that require, or have had, a (5+ char) TD manually interposed with only the first 4 characters, and the ACI not picking up properly on the TD?

No more than a hunch, but might need to be eliminated from enquiries.
Seem to recall it's across all sims; if you interpose full TD, ACI works OK. Not sure if WTTs using UIDs are affected.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

OK, I have a little bit more info:

It might be worth checking the working for the trains preceding the ones that have issues in the timetable itself. For example, in the default timetable for Victoria Central, 2M14-2 arrived at Sutton P4, but the next working (2R25) did not interpose automatically. I haven’t manually interposed anything for at least 14 sim-hours, so I was sure that it wasn’t caused by me.

The reason 2M14-2 didn’t become 2R25 is because train has headcode 2M14 rather than 2M14-2, which is expected from reading the previous posts. But as I didn’t fiddle with the headcode, this means the 2M14 must have come from somewhere else. So I checked the F4 timetable editor. I found 2M14-2 in the list and clicked the Referenced by button. No trains reference 2M14-2 was the response. Hmm, that’s odd: 2M14-2 originated at Victoria, so it must have come from a previous working. Using the F8 simplifier, I found that the previous working (2P81) has N:2M14 in its activity box for Victoria (instead of 2M14-2). Aha!

2M14 does not exist in the timetable, so the sim is substituting 2M14-2 in instead, which is the timetable the train itself ends up running to. However, the ACI at Victoria doesn’t know this, so it interposes 2M14 without asking questions. It’s only once 2M14-2 reaches Sutton nearly an hour later that an issue seems to crop up when the ACI seemingly doesn’t want to interpose there! It can’t, after all, as all it can see is a headcode that doesn’t exist in the timetable!

I think everything I said above has probably been mentioned before, but I didn’t make the link that the timetable could be the issue – it just seemed like the ACI was at fault.

tl;dr? Check the next workings/joins/splits in the timetable for previous trains to the one causing the issue – some of the workings may be using four-character codes when more is required to specify the train correctly.
