There isn't really a concept of "normal" platforms at New Street, the service pattern is that complicated that last minute changes are unavoidable.

When I worked at New St upto 2001. as I recall the Euston 'locals' used to use normally 2/3a or occasionally 1a. But headshot's comment of no fixed platform may apply in times of service disruption. Hope I haven't muddied the waters too much.

Take a look at the 'Arrivals' board- this will list the arrival time and origin station. I don't know where it is at New Street, but it'll be somewhere on the main concourse.

From what I've seen when writing my New Street TT, they're typically booked into 3A, 4A or 5A, but as previous posters have said booked platforms are largely academic at New St.

Think it's a common set of gates on the concourse anyway, not per platform.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

Always has been since I've used New Street (although things may have changed with the complete remodelling upstairs) - although in my experience the barriers are either open and unmanned, or with manual ticket checking during such busy times that they're happy as long as you flash something orange when barging past!

Straight through the gates for Tango Man then.

For what it's worth:

Here's the advanced platform information for Tuesday.

And here's today's actual platform use.

Another thought that comes to mind is the fact that major stations have arrivals boards for exactly this purpose...
