Way back in 1992 I wrote a Signal Box sketch with my friend Alan. It took us a few days to write. Or rather nights, as I was on night turn at Little Mill Jn and he visited the box and we wrote the sketch between trans. That is to say he ran the trains while I wrote down the ideas that we had and knocked it into shape.

We performed it twice, to non-railway people, and brought the house down both times. Since then we lost the original copy of the sketch and only now have I got around to re-writing it from memory. I am fairly sure that all of the jokes are in there, and in the same order.

I can upload it here if anyone would like to have a look, and maybe get a laugh or two out of it. But remember it's a sketch, and although we go into a fair bit of detail with the signalling system we do take a few liberties in the joint names of comedy and simplification.

That sounds great, and I would certainly watch it if posted somewhere.

Here it is then. Remember it's a script not a video so you need to do the voices for yourself. Feedback is appreciated!

Very clever. Maybe for the NRM signalling demo to add to their repertoire.
I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

Very good! When you performed it, did you get an actual frame or did you mime?

We mimed it as we had a budget of £0.00 :)

I learned more about block signalling from reading this than from reading the Wiki. Thanks again Kev.

That is brilliant. Even funnier when I read it aloud and imagined the moves on stage. Also learnt a bit too. Well done Kev.

I really wish we'd taped the performances that we did, but video cameras were quite expensive in those days. Still, if I get a couple of people drunk enough I could restage it :)
