I wonder if someone can help me with this subject. I would like to know the train reporting number for the Ulster Express from London to Heysham Harbour plus any stops it made on its way, and time it left London. Also for the same train the reporting number from Heysham Harbour to London, time it left plus any stops it made on its way. Thank you.

Found this which is quite informative though it does not answer all your questions.

The "Ulster Express," now working to an accelerated schedule, runs every day, including Sundays. From Mondays to Fridays, inclusive, it leaves Euston at 6.10 pm., and reaches Heysham at 10.52 pm., after stopping at Crewe, Preston. and Morecambe (Promenade). The distance to Heysham from Euston is 239 miles, or nearly twenty-nine miles less than that over the Midland route.

On Saturdays the "Ulster Express" leaves at 6.40 pm, and, stopping at the same stations though on an easier schedule, reaches Heysham at 11.33. On Sundays it leaves at 6.05 pm. and stops additionally at Rugby and Lancaster before reaching Heysham at 11.17 pm.

The connecting express from the Midland Division haves St. Pancras at 5 pm. (4 pm. on Saturdays in summer), and arrives at Heysham at 11.21. There is no service by this route on Sundays. Another connecting express, from Leeds and Manchester, on the Central Division of the L.M.S., reaches Heysham at 11.10 pm. (11 pm. on Saturdays). On Sundays this train starts from Manchester.

The steamer normally leaves Heysham about 11.40 pm. and reaches Belfast about 6.30 the following morning. On Sundays it leaves ten minutes earlier.

Last summer we went to Isle of Man via Heysham and saw the residual daily train arrive and depart while waiting to load. Never realised it was a former railhead for London to Ireland.

if you can get hold of a public working timetable, you can then compare it to the WTT for the same period. I have had to do this recently for a timetable to find out all the sleeper, motorail and named services. The NRM has a Huge stockpile of both WTTs and PTTs which I found helped immensely.

You also didnt Quote a specific year which would probably hel as the Reporting numbrs change annually

EDIT
from the passenger WTT 1962 for Midland region:

DOWN
Departs Euston 5:50 p.m.
calls at Crewe to pick up only 8:57 p.m.
calls at Preston 10:4 p.m.
arrives Heysham 11:0 p.m. for an 11:55 p.m. Sailing

Conveys a Restaruant Car, Buffet Car and Through Coaches London - Heysham.

UP
Sailing arrives 5:0 a.m.
departs Heysham 6:55 a.m.
calls at Crewe 8:59 a.m.
calls at New St. 10:50 a.m. to Change Crew
arrives at Euston 11:55 a.m.

Thank you for the info for the train. I forgot to mention the year would be about 1974-1975. I think the sailings to Ireland finished about 1975. The train service finished about the same year.

"Encyclopedia of Named Trains" has the final date as April 6th 1975

I've pulled out my Section G pt2 for May 73 - May 74.

It has 1P49 - 18:35 Euston - Heysham. it is listed as being Class 40 worked with Special timings. it arrives at Heysham at 22:53h.

There is also 1P44 - 18:35 Euston - Heysham arriving 22:22h which is listed as running 17th-19th July only.

there is 1A15 - 06:23 Heysham - Euston again with Special Cl.40 timings.

finally there is a Q working - 1A10 06:15 to Euston.

I would guess that 1P49 and 1A15 would be the Ulster based on the special timings, and being worked by 100mph Air braked stock.
