I experienced this a long time ago in Southampton, but if I did report it presumably it was ignored because the sim is so old it might well have been fixed. Well, today I experienced a similar or possibly identical thing in Birmingham New Street, so I'm assuming it's the same bug I experienced in Southampton and therefore not a sim-specific issue, hence my posting it here.

Down to the bug itself — two trains meaning to join sometimes seem to get into a weird "dance", where they go into a loop of moving at 2mph, waiting for the other to join, etc. but out of phase with each other, so one is always waiting while the other is moving.

It's happening in the attached save with 1G70 and 1M72 (on platform 6). I know that it's fixable by giving them various shunt/reverse commands to break out of the loop.

(Incidentally, I'd love to see how this would look in real life ;))

Not quite sure why, but reversing 1G70 from Up to Dn did the trick; odd thing was that 1M72 is now shown as "Joining to 1G70" but 1G70 is still showing as "Waiting for joining train 1M72" rather than "being joined by 1M72".

Indeed, when I had the same thing with Southampton a long time back I got out of it in the same way. After making the post I shunted one of them forwards and got the same symptoms as you suggested, but the join did work.
