Hi, recently I have seen two trains on separate occasions with a black 'X' displayed in the window of the cab. Does anyone know what this means? Thanks Log in to reply |

"Non-multi" - it is to stop units being joined together when there is a defective coupler on a set.

The black X is the notice to drivers that the unit has a non-multiple restriction on that driving end, i.e. it cannot be coupled to another unit due to a defect or otherwise. It is placed in the second man's front windscreen so it is visible to the driver when he/she approaches it in another unit.
