The NYCTA is really ramping up the propaganda re: CTBC. The first line it appeared on cost about twice as much to outfit and was a basic two track operation with no major junctions. The queens Boulevard is a 4-track line with at least 3 major junctions. For all the cost and complexity, the CTBC system on the L only netted an increase of 4tph over the existing block signaling system. Ironically that is less than the system saw back in the 1950's before rolling stock performance was reduced. What is worse is that in many cases terminal capacity is the limiting factor for throughput.

CTBC is a pipe dream peddled by signal vendors that make their profit on cost overruns. Coded tracks are more proven, more reliable and more secure.

And I always was told that the definition of being a real signalman was if you could manage three telephone conversations at the same time!

...while taking one 'under the hammer' and pulling off the other way for the non-stop, all without spilling the tea.
