Hi Gents,

I have used Southampton without any problems.I then moved on to Derby and have a problem which I can not resolve without some assistance.

Train enters from Spondon heading for Platform 4.At Sig 422 what is the correct routing to Platform 4?

I have tried the following without success. From 422 I have tried selecting via 439 -no go.422 to 429 no go.Selecting 439 into platforms no problems at all.All of my problems start at 422.The only sure route from 422 that I can select is to Platform 1 which then leads to a penalty.

I have waited until the train has come to a dead stand at 422 and this does not resolve this.

As a non-signaller can someone please assist me with this?

I am using the stock TT-full version.Am I missing something in my set up?

Thanks in advance

Can you use the lower of the blue VIA buttons (near signal 439)? Select 422, click the lower VIA button, then click 454.

You simply set the route directly from 422 to 454. As there's only one possible route, Via buttons aren't required. The Shunt signals on the route will clear automatically, and when used in this way are termed running shunts. Where possible, try to route directly from main signals to main signals. Shunts are generally only used when routing to/from sidings, or for things like reversing and shunting. For this reason, no route is provided from 422 to 429 and 439- there's no need for it, as any train heading towards them will end up in one of the platforms, so you can simply set the route to the signal at the end of the platform.

Hope that makes sense!

Ah, sorry, I'd missed that he hadn't tried routing directly from 422 to 454. The Southampton sim has running shunts as well, eg in the Millbrook area, so it should be something not unfamiliar.

Hi,

I note what you say steamer, and yes,it does make sense.

I did try that at the very first try with this sim but had no joy.

At 422,do I have to let the train come to a stand then set the route into the platform or can I set it up in advance?

To Muzzer, thanks for your thoughts, and yes with Southampton having been played through without too many probs I was feeling happy with the signalling concepts as a whole. You are never too old to still learn!

Thanks for your suggestions .I will try them tonight and report back.

422 to 454, with no via button, definitely works. You weren't trying to set the route from 430 were you?

You can set the route whenever you want. It's approach released from red though, so you'll notice that when you set the route the signal stays at red until the train approaches it, at which point it clears.

Hi Steamer,

Thanks for your guidence.Re-start Derby and 422 to a platform is resolved - Thanks.

I have a further question re 430.Is this only used when exiting research sidings or does it have a further use.

To round off the Alrewas connection notes say that you have to request a slot and the signals seem to suggest that this is for incoming trains to Derby .What is required for outbound trains at this point or does one use the same sigs for this traffic too.

As you should see from the track layout, it can be used by trains on the Down Main to access platforms 1, 2 and 3.

Alrewas requires a slot to send trains to Derby, as explained in the manual. Derby doesn't require a slot to send a train to Alrewas, you just set the route as normal.
