I'm losing my mind with Stafford, specifically Hademore crossing. It gives me a penalty if it's down longer than 4 minutes, regardless of trains passing over or not.

Each crossing can be coded for two penalties by the Developer:
- Barriers down too long
- Barriers down too long AND no train passing

A custom time can be allocated, and local knowledge is often applied as to what is deemed excessive.

Try lowering the barriers a little bit later when a train is approaching, this should stop you getting penalised.

To avoid penalties, here's what I do with Hademore Crossing on the Stafford sim:
Make sure auto raise is ticked.
For non-stop trains, don't start the lowering sequence until the train has only two green signals ahead of it (TH42 for Down trains, LD3 for Up trains) then, as long as you press the "Clear" button immediately the barriers are down, the train wo'n't see restrictive aspects and wo'n't have to slow down.

For Down trains which have stopped at Tamworth, don't lower until the train leaves Tamworth and for Up trains which have stopped at Lichfield, don't lower until they have departed from Lichfield.

Try to get the barriers up between trains where possible, even if only for a short time.

I don't know if it says anything in the manual, but this is what works for me.

The simulation gives you a message when a train approaches Hademore, I just lower the barriers then. No penalty and trains stay on greens.

Quite right, I'd forgotten that!
