Hope this is the right forum for this but apologies and please move if not.

Having had a Mac for a few years now, I’ve recently heard about Crossover as a means of running SimSig.

I’ve now installed the trial version of Crossover and this appears to be successful.

I downloaded the SimSig system files and installed them with Crossover using the default locations; (i.e. C:\Program Files\SimSig.) Having restarted the Mac, I can now fire up the SimSig loader.

Next, I downloaded Carlisle. Again, installed with Crossover using unchanged defaults. The exe file is in \Program Files\SimSig whilst the others are in a Carlisle sub folder. (There are at least 4 timetables and 22 splash jpg’s.)

So now I can run Carlisle from the loader ? Well unfortunately not. The loader does not appear to see Carlisle and lists no sims as available.

If I run Carlisle.exe directly, it tries to load but fails without any explanation or warning dialogs.

I may be missing something pretty simple or obvious here but frustration is growing! If anyone is able to offer any thoughts or assistance, I’ll be most grateful.

Many thanks.

Carlisle isn't a loader sim yet, you'll need to use the exe to launch it directly.

Make sure you have the required runtimes, and I think you need IE in the bottle too.

Many thanks for this. I now have SimSig running properly for both 'normal' and 'loader' Sims.

However, (perhaps not surprisingly,) there are a couple of bugs.

i) the new Train List list (F2) loads but displays a warning dialog "Can't find <body> element". The effect is that, whilst the train info is correct and updates, a train can't be selected and the usual follow up actions aren't available. Not a major problem as the 'legacy' train list works fine.

ii) Incoming phone calls work properly. But outgoing calls are not possible as no outgoing phones are listed when 'Place call to' is selected. So can't ask permission, for example, to send a train to a yard.

Should say that these problems don't appear to be Sim-dependent but are always there.

Any thoughts, advice or assistance will be much appreciated. Thanks!

Depends on the Sim whether you need to make a call or not - these are bespoke by Sim.

In Wine, this means you haven’t installed Internet Explorer properly. I have no idea how one might go about doing that in Crossover, though.

Thank you, Gents.

I do have IE installed in the bottle but no real idea about how to reinstall it, if that's what's needed. But the legacy list is ok.

As for outgoing phone calls, I do appreciate that this requirement varies between Sims. However, I think Carlisle, Brighton and Exeter all need a phone call to a shunter somewhere; e.g Kingmoor Down Yard or Hove Yard. Clicking on 'Place call to' in these Sims merely reveals an empty box. Everything else seems to be working correctly.

I can certainly verify that Exeter has a couple of phone calls needing to be placed, so yes, if that sim shows empty, then you have a problem.
