130 posts 		I've read what it says in the manual about ARS being optimistic about up freights clearing in time, but it seems to ignore the layover.

For example 6E64 waited a little too long at Whitehall West 3615 because 2L26 was holding TNDK, then decided to clear 6E64 through to 3862. 6E64 duly stopped at 3862 for its 5 minute break, but ARS immediately set the route to 3834 which blocks both lines. In this case it didn't cause a problem, but earlier in the day passenger trains were delayed by the route being set before the freight was due to depart.

Well, it includes the layover in its calculations, but it doesn't always come up with results that you might agree with. The author of the timetable is changing some of the layovers to optional stops rather than mandatory waiting for booked time when that stop is simply for regulation purposes (as opposed to, for example, a crew change). That's taking a while as each train has to be checked manually.

Online 		You can collar the signal. I remember when I as watching the feed from the box at York NRM seeing the signalman collar a signal in the station when they had problems with a train, presumably to inhibit ARS.

3629 posts 		That happens a lot with early/late running freights on the up slow at Skelton junction. A collar gets popped on.
