I've just run update in SimSig Loader and one of the things it did was to update the Loader program itself to 4.5.12.0 My Avast anti-virus software now reports Loader as "possibly containing a very rare virus" and has sent it off to their virus lab - in the meantime it refuses to let me run the program. I know that I *can* override the block, but there's always the niggling doubt that there may indeed somehow be a virus. Whilst I wait for the automated Avast system to get back to me, has anyone seen this one and successfully navigated through it?!?

This is fairly common as AV software flags files that aren't downloaded often as possibly malicious. In the grand scheme of things SimSig isndow loaded by a very small number of people.

In 15 years of using the software I have never encountered any Malware with any file download from this site, including the latest version of Loader. It is of course entirely your perogative whether you unblock the file or not, but personally I'd tell Avast to ignore it. I'm not sure what Avast's lab tests entail but I don't know how they intend to distinguish between a "very rare virus" and "very rare legitimate software" Log in to reply |

That screenshot shows it as an unknown file, not one that "might contain a rare virus". Either it's detected the signature of a virus or it hasn't! As far as I know the "lab tests" consist of a quantity of users reporting it as ok or otherwise. "Community verification" might be a more accurate label if that is the case. Geoff It was an earlier message that said the file "might contain a rare virus"; the screenshot I posted was the message I got whilst access to the file was blocked. Happily, like Barry, I eventually got the all-clear and can now use Loader again. Log in to reply |
