Can any signallers tell me what the repocussions of a wrong route being offered but not taken? Does it just go on file and require a debrief or is it more severe whereby someone would be taken off the job?

How often do they go unreported by either the driver or the signaller?

O code as delay would be caused and tea with your manager if it happens too often.

Apparently it happens so they allow you to have one or 2 but you do see signs like "check your autos" to remind you.

Reason I ask is I got a wrong route offered yesterday for the first time and just felt quite bad reporting it!

Unlike some drivers I see signallers as my colleagues so it's never a nice to do. Hopefully lessons will be learned though. :huh:

It's only be O coded if a delay was incurred. Driver realises he had a wrong route, GSMR call on approach to signal, clear understanding reached, signal put back, times out (120 seconds for example) reset, and you might not hit the delay threshold for it to be investigated.

How it's coded in TRUST depends on whether the driver stops and queries (O Coded) or if he takes the route in which case the delay is split 50/50 between the signaller (OC) and driver (TG) and all subsequent delays also then get split.

At our TOC, the general belief in this situation is that the driver would get into a lot more trouble than the signaller.

That's fair enough if the Driver knows in advance that the road is set the wrong way, but sometimes he won't know until the train is on top of the junction. For instance, Bristol Parkway had a signal at the end of the Down platform reading towards Bristol TM or towards the Severn Tunnel. Both routes cleared to a green straight away (assuming nothing in front) so that the Driver of a non-stop train didn't know that the route was set incorrectly until it was far too late to stop at the signal.

I suppose this is the reason that Preliminary Route Indicators are appearing across the network where there is a chance of wrong routing with no indication until the last minute.
There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

We should report it ourselves to be honest, I have but whether all signallers do... your guess is as good as mine. Don't feel bad though, mistakes can and do happen...and most of us make them both signallers and drivers. :doh

That's big of you seeing that the infrastructure separation arrangement has done everything it can to turn signalers and train operators into mutual antagonists.
