Many of the Colas IM Test Trains and various other trains contain "Q" in the headcode. 3Q34 / 5Q58 for instance.
The Q indicates that the train MUST NOT be diverted off route, this could be for Recording data or for infrastructure limitations.

When compiling a timetable would it be possible to have a check box with "train cannot be diverted off planned route" or such like

It would only be functional if the simulation could comprehend and challenge the booked route - a lot of work for the developers and not possible within current wrong-route code.

There is now a "notes" function available in timetables - which gives the timetable writer a free-text field to put additional info/instructions like this.

Numerous track recorders only record certain stretches of railway line, so are free to be diverted between recording locations.
