I've been catching up on my reading and have just found an article in the September Railway Magazine about the Rail Operations Group. As an add-on to the article, there is a description of a cab-ride the Editor Chris Milner had on the weekly Derby - Ramsgate EMU move. I have snipped a bit of that description and add it below. It may interest some readers of the Forum (and there is an interesting bit of gender reassignment as well).
