Lost or hiding Snapshot saves 09/11/2017 at 18:03 #102740

Hi.
Could somebody please tell me where my Carlisle 'Snapshot' saves are being stored.

Yesterday I ran the sim for approximately an hour and today expected to find the saves in the list when loading a previously saved game. I’ve run the sim from a manual save that I made and there have been two ‘Snapshot’ saves since, neither of which I can find.
I thought that they would be stored in ‘Users\Public\Public Documents\SimSig\Timetables\Carlisle’ where a couple of my manual saves can be found. I have also looked in the ‘Users\myname\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\SimSig\Carlisle’ folder and ‘OS (C\Program File (x86)\Carlisle’ and there’s nothing in those either.

Now at a loose end.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

As Carlise is a standalone sim it should save to either

driveUsers\myname\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\SimSig\Carlisle
or on 64bit systems drive\program files (x86)\SimSig\carlise
on 32 bit systems drive\program files\SimSig\carlise

however I have found that standalone sims sometimes save to the SimSig folder in public documents
drive\Users\Public\Documents\SimSig

If all else fails you could do a search for *.ssg

I have just looked in the folder that you suggested (as above) and 'hey presto' that's where I have found them.
I automatically looked in the two subfolders 'Simulations' and 'Timetables, but not in the 'Simsig' folder itself. What an odd place for them to go. I suppose that I'll have to copy them to the folder where my manual are saved in order to be able to select one on start-up. Oh well.

Thanks very much

They won't be placed in the Simulations or Timetables folders, because those folders are part of the Loader folder structure. Carlisle is a .exe sim, so it doesn't follow that structure.

If you go into 'Options' in the simulation, there's a tick box for 'Use Public Documents folder'. Untick it, and they should be saved to either the VirtualStore location or the Program Files\SimSig\Carlisle folder, depending on whether you've given yourself permission to write files to the latter location.

I didn't know that that tick box existed

If a user uses windows XP the save will most likely be in program files.

But on Vista and up it will tend to use the virtualstore, this should work invisably to the user, in that programs that use it, the program should display saves and timetables from both locations at the same time appearing as a single location to the user though the program being used.

Yep, they're now saving to the VirtualStore and appearing as start-up options when I open the sim. Leaning something new every day.

Thanks Steamer
