4 Yeoford?
Hi AndyG,

Sorry no. The Okehampton trains don't call at Yeoford so the second platform is not in use. According to National Rail Yeoford only has one platform.

The NYMR only uses platform 2 during the summer months.
Correct Sacro, but not the station I was thinking of where the second platform is served 8-10 months of the year.

Good start Chromatix. Waverley is the only station to share a name with one of his novels - at the moment.

Would it be that they are all fictional? However, I can only find one case of "Union Street" (in the 2008 film "The Escapist").
Danny252, they are all fictional stations, but I need a bit more than that for the full answer.

14. Timetable Challenge - "TURKEY"
- Travel between national rail stations starting with the letters T,U,R,K,E & Y in turn in the shortest time.
- Journey must start on Monday 8th January 2018
- The train must stop at the "TURKEY" station, but you need not alight.
- All times and connections must be calulated on the Nation Rail Enquiries web site.
- Minimum connection is 5 minute if doubling back.
- Please list the stations and times where you change trains and the time at "TURKEY" stations.
My best attempt is 3 hours, 8 minutes so far using the following route
Dep Romford 06:11
Calls at Emerson Park 06:15
Arr Upminster 06:20
Dep Upminster 06:30
Arr Fenchurch Street 06:53
Dep Fenchurch Street 07:00
Arr Blackfriars 07:17
Dep Blackfriars 07:32
Arr Herne Hill 07:41
Dep Herne Hill 07:49
Calls at Kent House 07:59
Arr Orpington 08:20
Dep Orpington 08:29
Arr Tonbridge 08:49
Dep Tonbridge 09:04
Arr Yalding 09:19
Sorry Trainfan344 but the stations have to be in the order "T-U-R-K-E-Y". I'll edit the question to make this clearer. Apologies for any misunderstanding.

University (Birmingham) calls 1549

Birmingham New Street a 1712
Walk to Moor Street

Plus it's probably the cheapest way to do the TURKEY challenge as I think it's all under a West Midlands day ticket!

Well done Table 52! That will take some beating.

Sorry, not Ryde Pier Head. The second platform at the station I'm thinking of is still in use (just not very often).

To be honest I struggled a bit with the question.

He did write a novel, Kenilworth, which is a place on a railway line in Warwickshire, but I don't think that was his second novel.

Mallaig? Two platforms but the second is only used when the Jacobite is running?

My best guess would be the London Victoria - Southampton (via Horsham) trains. For example 1J90 1734 from Victoria, which calls at...

Horsham
Barnham
Chichester
Fishbourne
Bosham
Southbourne
Emsworth
Havant
Cosham
Portchester
Fareham
Swanwick

Then goes onto Southampton (which is irritatingly called central - otherwise I could have had 13!!)

Thats a grand total of 12

edit: and Castle Cary stopped Taunton, Tiverton Parkway, Exeter St Davids, Exeter St Thomas, Starcross being added; my original guess.
