the creators upgrade has caused a lot of problems for some 32bit applications running under certain conditions on Win 10. An update dated Dec 12 sorted this problem out. Yes,those two updates have solved most problems which people had. As with anything computerwise some people do not get sorted.that said have you updated to the latest graphics driver? This is worth a try.If you are on the latest driver you can try rolling back to an earlier one which did not give you lags. I have also seen that some Intel chips installed into laptops have a serious security risk associated with them. Lenovo ,HP and Dell laptops running i3,i5,i7 chips are at risk.A firmware update is available from your laptop producers site. Log in to reply |

Entry level machine running Intel(R)_Pentium(R) CPU N3540. Lenovo system analyser reports that all drivers and firmware are up to date. There appears to be a graphics driver update on the Intel site but it will not install (not validated by the OEM). It's not a showstopper, just a bit messy when I'm scrolling and only seems to have started since the last W10 update to 1709. Windows 10 rolled out another big upgrade to Creator at 9am Pacific Time yesterday. Took approx 25 mins to restart on my 3 year old, 32 bit, PC but have had no issues with it since it installed.

Regarding the scrolling bug, the game OpenTTD recently ran into a scrolling bug with Windows 10, where right-click-dragging became very jerky - the bug report has quite a lot of detailed diagnosis and is caused by a change to internal Windows calls: https://bugs.openttd.org/task/6629 Does this happen to be related? I'm not entirely sure it is, as their bug refers to right-click-dragging and directly polling the mouse position, whilst postal's issue related to scroll bars that probably use a default Windows interface. It appears that Microsoft has problems caused by poor inter deparetment communications. The creators update team ended up with egg on their faces due to another team making some extra adjustments.This caused a problem. Lockheed Martin raised the problem and also found some others yet,despite LM size and importance as a defence contractor LM still had to wait for December 12 to see if the fix worked! It seems to me that if LM cannot get Microsoft to act outside its normal update pattern what chance do smaller developers stand when they in turn may discover OS problems. The MS support teams had an awful lot of calls over this and the main solution on offer was if you still could do it roll back to the previous update! Log in to reply |
