Greetings all,

Since we started using TeamSpeak3 on games I have had to resort to typing as I have not had a pair of headphones with a headset to be able to communicate.

However help is at hand: for my birthday recently I was given a very nice pair of headphones which have bluetooth and can interact with my mobile phone. The headphones also have a microphone so I can talk and listen: very useful because TeamSpeak 3 is available on my mobile phone's operating system (Android). I will have to pay £1.49 for the app (can't do that until payday) but, hopefully, I should be able to interact verbally with my fellow players. Which will be great.

However has anyone else tried using the TS3 app? If so how easy to use and how good is it?

Cheers,
Dave

Me Dave.

So, using my provided iPhone headphones, I find that voice activation is ok as long as there is no other surrounding sound as the mic picks up everything. push to talk is what I resort to. (Mainly so that I am not annoying everyone else with constant interference)

I used my bluetooth headphones (Phillips) also and they were ok, same situation with voice activation, really sensitive even when set at a low activation setting. Batteries died within two hours though.

Trying to get to typed messages on the app is a bit of a faffing about journey, but most users talk so unless you're sharing links etc, then its not bad app to use.

Thanks Craig. I would only use TS for SimSig where needed and would be sitting at my PC. However I could do both at once so fairly useful. My heaadphones are Sony ones (MDR-ZX770BN). Will try them out at some point on TS3.

Might be easier to get a bluetooth USB dongle for the PC and hook up that way.

TS app is alright.

Things to not expect great comings from:

Reading messages easily
PMing easily

Also DO NOT start up TS without your headphones in, and plug-in while the app is running...the app tends to glitch out and think that you have no working microphone/speakers which requires a full restart.

Cheers Aaron. I wouldn't use it for PMing: only for talking during SimSig sessions. Thanks also for the tip regards headphones: would connect them via. Bluetooth as I am not sure if I could talk with a direct wired connection even though headphones and smartphone can connect by either means.

I prefer push-to-talk, both for myself and not wishing to hear every hiccup, cough, splutter, and munch/crunch from other users!

TS is great for public access, people dropping in without needing inviting/registering, but the voice quality and balancing is poor compared to Skype. But Skype has gotten progressively worse lately - the Windows Store version doesn't even work properly most of the time so I have to revert to the desktop version!

The voice activation always seems a lot better with PCs than Mobile Devices.

I go on with my laptop I can set it so that it picks me talking up without shouting, but 99% of the time won't detect ambient noise from the television or excitable toddler in the room. With the iPhone I can't manage that, I either have to shout a bit or everyone else can hear Peppa Pig in the background.

The other thing you can do Dave, which I and at least one other have done in the past, is to connect the phone for talking and your computer (with everything muted) to the same channel, and then read and respond to text chat with the computer.

I always found Skype to be ok for a "one-to-one" conversion but not too great for a group chat, but haven't used it in a long time now.
