He has returned... this time with the identifier PICS on the P'Borough game.

Sadly the host (Kieran, KIER) did not manage to note down his IP address.

PICS joined stating that he has played before lots of times, this is when I became suspicious because I have never seen the name PICS before.

He was then told that no panels were available.

After a while I spotted that some routes were being set on JOHN's panel. JOHN also noticed this. PICS said "This is boring, I want a panel" and continues to set routes. We alerted Keiren to the fact and Kieran disconnected PICS.

PICS also spammed the chat saying something about searching something on Google.

Watch out.

If these seem familiar to you, don't hesitate to post a reply below.

carphone warehouse own aol uk, so it could be an aol customer. i think maybe what should happen is to keep a log on all games when peop;le connect with times dates and ip's and maybe if the site owner here can see the web logs check the ip against the web logs here and we may find out who it is.

see, this little imposter, I think, is using other people's usernames to cause trouble.

Also, we should make this forum private so people from the public can't see this post. By this forum being public, It could be co-initiating the issue

I think the easiest way to sort this problem is for hosts to not post their ip on the forum, but to ask interested parties to pm them with their details (forum name, ip and name they will be connecting with), and then the host can give the ip for the game. This way the host knows who is joining and if anybody tries to join that hasn't pm'd first , they don't get connected. Also, could something not be done on each members profile where aswell as your forum name, you have to put the name you will use for mp games which once set can't be changed by the member themselves, then you will know that the person trying to connect is who they say they are.

yea, but if we put our user initials the "trouble-maker" can replicate us by using our initials...

My only reservation with this is people like me. I used to play a lot - under the name RJWC - but since life took over, I now have very little time for games. (Does anyone remember me?!)

This is why I don't like the idea of private games etc. How am I then meant to play, and how are new people (who will make mistakes) start?

Don't know if it is just me but I am getting really bored with reading updates to this thread now. It covers the same ground over and over again.

I just feel that it is playing straight in to the hands of whoever is disrupting games. He/she/they must be really happy that their disruption is making headlines.

Had we just ignored them or disconnected them and got on with it they would have got bored and gone elsewhere. As we continue to talk about it and try to find ways to block them it is just going to escalate the matter further.

Andy,

I agree and made the same point 6 pages ago (post 26 page 3).
