You need to set up Port Forwarding on your router. The principle is explained on this Wiki page; you'll need to look up your router's user manual for details of how to set it up.

That's what I used as the wiki page on here didn't help me (it didn't make sense to me).

That's what I used as the wiki page on here didn't help me (it didn't make sense to me).
Could you explain the bits that didn't make sense so that the page can perhaps be re-written so that others in the same situation as yourself don't have the same problem. Because there are so many different routers in use, the page is not designed to tell you how to set up the specific port forwarding on your own machine but the article does included a link to a site where you can access the instructions for your own specific router and also a link to a YouTube video which shows the process. Were these links not helpful?

As far as the actual setting up of the port forwarding is conferenced, the PC World article includes some needlessly complicated instructions. There is no need to set a static IP for your machine provided that you know what the current local IP of your machine is (the 192.168.1.11 type of address shown in the article) and put that into your Router port forwarding set up. You will find your current local IP shown on the final page you get to as you click through the various pages on the SimSig loader screen.

The Wiki is a collective effort with the pages written by interested members of the community (i.e. all of us). If there are any problems with any of the pages, it is always helpful the problem is reported so that any member of the community with the time, the will, the knowledge and the effort can re-write the page to solve the problem.

I tend to set up static IP's when forwarding or helping people to forward as routers may sometimes reset automatically assigned addresses. Mine did so one or two times, this might have been because of a software update from the ISP though.

Also, there are routers which allow you to select a computer rather than an IP. On those it makes no sense to set a static IP address as they recognise a computer by its MAC address. Many devices manufactured by SpeedTouch/Technicolor work that way (not my TC7210, though).
