A random thought that popped into my head recently: Were there ever semaphore junction signals with a colour light distant that was fitted with a flashing yellow aspect for the diverging route?

Wouldn't have thought so. I've only seen junction distants with multiple arms. Edit: Although http://www.railsigns.uk/sect6page1/sect6page2.html does show some "theatre" type main signals that no longer exist. I’ve done a diagram of what I think you’re after: https://i.imgur.com/zPjky74.jpg It’s an unlikely scenario. It would need to be a (relatively) high speed junction on the fringe between a mechanical signalling installation and an MAS signalling installation; where the distance between signalboxes was short enough to put the distant signal under the section/starting signal of the mechanical ‘box. I get the impression the question refers to the signals being the other way round - the distant is colour light going on to a semaphore stop signal capable of signalling a diverging route.

Colour light distants with semaphore stop signals are fairly common; having that distant show flashing single yellow is not - but never, or just very rare? SimSig Boss Log in to reply |

It would seem unlikely to have flashing aspects, the wiring from semaphores would surely only have On or Off, and combining multiple On/Offs to make a decision would make the logic circuits more complicated and more likely to fail to prove?

I can throw this into the mix: A semaphore+YGY reading through to a 4 aspect colour light with a diverging route. We have this at Thames Ditton miniature rly, although in this case the 4 aspect at the junction is in fact App Con from red. In the diagram, sig 63 is the last signal from a semaphore area, reading through to sig 55 with 2 diverging routes (ditto 64-60). If the divergent line speed was suitable, I think 63 could be a flashing Y onto 55 with a diverging route. Post has attachments. Log in to view them. I can only help one person a day. I'd have thought if they went to the effort of providing a high speed turnout and flashing distant they'd just replace the semaphore bracket for a colour light at the same time.

The layout at Ashendon Junction after the re-signalling was interesting. on the down there colur light distant, colour light home and semaphore section signals which were about 400 yards from the home signal. The sequences were as follows. To Brill & Ludgersal, Section signal off, Green distant green home. Section signal on, single yellow distant, red home on approach single yellow. To Grendon Junction, section signal off, Double yellow distant, single yellow Home with junction indicator, on approach green. Section signal on.
