Hello,

sorry for my english, I'm not a native speaker. I have a computer system at home and everything is fine with Simsig and I was also sometimes a member by a multiplayer simulation. Now I want install all from Simsig on another computer, it is also a Windows XP system, everything is the same. At first I can't log in to "License Manager" (Failed to connect server) and second, if I try to make a update I read by start from this (Install/ Update Automatically) in every step from automatic process "File does not exist on server". In result is nothing updatet if finish the turn from update.

I readed in the forum what I found to this topic. Therefore I changed my firewall and give the permission, to SimSigLoader.exe and SimSigLicenseManager.exe to connect the internet. I have no antivirus program.

At last I compared this new system with the other, where everything work. I see no solution, what can be wrong. Have someone any idea what I can make? Maybe have I to open Ports in my router but I found nothing for this case?

Thank you for help and I'm sure I missed something what you see.

Best regards form Berlin

Boris

Opening your firewall should be enough, you do not need to forward any ports to just run the updater, or the license manager.

Pretty sure it's an issue with SSL/TLS. XP is no longer supported.

As far as I can see, the license manager connects to the same address as the SimSig web site. It still supports TLS 1.0 and a bunch of outdated ciphers (see https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=www.SimSig.co.uk). XP versions before SP3 don't understand Let's Encrypt certificates but otherwise it should work just fine. I would rather think of an issue with the firewall here.

(I would encourage the SimSig team to check the configuration of the web server though, it's rather outdated as you can see on the linked server test page.)

Thanks. It's interesting as last year it was graded A by the same site. Things change, I guess, new weaknesses discovered in existing protocols.

Back up to "A" again, though one or two more improvements could be made. Interestingly the Microsoft article on how to disable TLS 1.0 is actually wrong. Thank Stack Overflow for the correct answer.

Ah, it's Microsoft! Don't have experience with their server software. Well, from now on any XP issue can definitely be blamed on SSL/TLS protocols.

Hi there. It appears I'm having the same issue here. I currently have loader V4.6.9.

I currently have several simulations that I'm unable to play because I have an outdated version of the loader.

However, when I run the updater, after "Getting update manifest" and "Parsing manifest", the updater shows "File does not exist on server" for every file it tries to update.

I have followed the instructions I could see from previous responses to this thread - I have re-downloaded and installed the system files, and turned of my firewall/anti-virus, but when running the updater it still presents the same error.

Is there anything else anyone could suggest I try? I'm running Windows 8 if that would make any difference.

Thanks in advance.

Try this

Solved it!!

I had to enable all the SSL and TLS options in Internet Explorer (I don't even use it - I use Firefox) and now everything seems to be working (Update and Licence Manager).
I guess IE can control connections in Windows that Simsig needs but that Firefox can get around.

Thanks for the help all!

If anyone comes accross this in the future - the relevant options are in IE in Tools > Internet Options, Advanced Tab and scroll down to the Security section. www.SimSig.co.uk won't be accessible in IE if the correct options are not selected.

That did indeed do the trick.

My apologies for missing that post elsewhere, but thanks again for your help.

Hi guys,

I'm on 4.6.9 but I get the file not found on server.

I can't connect to https://www.SimSig.co.uk using Internet Explorer

I can with Chrome.

Is there a way to get update files manually?

Thanks

Graham

What Operating System is your computer using (XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10 etc.)?

Have you read this thread: https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Forum/ThreadView/49153 ?

Have you followed these instructions that are in the post? If you can't access the SimSig website using Internet Explorer, it sounds like the fix described will solve your problem.

Hi Steamer,

Hmm, it doesn't work. The advice is actually a bit vague, i.e. it doesn't say exactly which options need to be checked.

I guess there's a change on the site. It would be nice to have some advice around which version of SSL/TLS we actually need.

Also, would be a nice workaround to be able to get the files manually from the server.

Cheers

Graham

At a minimum you need TLS 1.2.

I don't understand why you wouldnt just enable it.

Looks like the site is TLS 1.2 only, which means the loader won't connect.

Is there a way to get the files manually?

The only way to get the files is via the updater. I don't understand why you don't just enable TLS 1.2 in your settings.

For some reason I'd got it in my head you where on windows 8. My apologies I now realise you are on vista.

Vista does not support TSL 1.1 OR 1.2, and internet explorer 9 isn't supported by Microsoft anymore either.

Windows Vista has not been supported by Microsoft since April 2017, you really should consider an update to a supported operating system. Especially if you are using the computer while connected to the internet.

Vista may require an update to enable TLS v1.2. See the instructions here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/176902-enabling-tls-1112-support-in-vistas-internet-explorer-9/

Hi Edgemaster,

Thanks, I was about a minute ahead of you and had just found the near-identical fix on another website.

I have the TLS1.2 options in IE now and the updater now connects!

Happy days.
