Assuming all the laptops are on the same local network, all you did is start one game up as a server, and then connect using that laptops local IP Address.

Did you create that network using your computer's own wifi adapter as a hotspot? In that case you will have a different IP address on that interface, which you'd need to check in the adapter settings in Network Settings, I believe. It is at least not the same IP address as you'd have on your wired interface, which SimSig is probably reporting.

You could run "ipconfig /all" in CMD to find out - if unsure about the different IP addresses, you could post the output here (just remove the MAC addresses, which can be personally identifiable information).

It could also be a firewall setting, by the way. Are you running any firewall application beside Windows firewall?

I have one question about that, when I start up SimSig and get to the final option of hosting a MP session, I have two IP addresses:

1. xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (do not use when hosting on the Internet)

2. xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is what I get when I click on the What is My Internet Address

So when I do manage to get to setting up a MP session on a local network, what IP address do I give someone to connect to me via wifi?

Also if I hosted a MP session on the internet, what IP address do I use?

I just want to be sure on how to set it up as I'm moving and want to be sure I know how to set up a MP session both online and over the Internet.

Also what is a Internet Gateway?

The first address is your computer's local address on the local network. Computers on the same local network can use this address to connect to you.

The second address is your public address (i.e. the address your network presents to the rest of the world). Computers not on your network use this address to connect to you. You must also set up port forwarding on your router so that traffic arriving at your router from the rest of the internet on a given port (50505 is the SimSig default) is directed to your computer.

Thank you so the only difficult thing to look at is the port forwarding then (depending on level skill) Still least it means I now understand what the two IP addresses are.

Howwever what is a Internet Gateway? In simple terms please

It is the local IP address of your router which your device needs to connect to in order to access the internet.

Sorry I misread the SimSig Loader, it actually said Interface Gateway so what is the difference between "Run a SimSig Server" and "Run a Interface Gateway"???

The interface gateway sends data out in a similar way of the Network Rail Open Data Feeds. Not something that most poeple would make use of. If you want to run the session as a multiplayer, it would always be run it as a server.

====Edit====
This is something which I have done previusally with the interface gateway, where the TDs from the sim are displayed on an external application. Something similar to that of Traksy and Open Train Times do with the real NR feeds.

This page of the Wiki may explain a bit more about internal and external IPs for you.
