I have just loaded the SimSig loader to find almost all my sims have turned magenta. Upon entering the licence manager, it seems every single one of my licences has been allocated to another machine.

Whilst I know requesting an unlock is a simple task (though a pain to re-allocate with almost every payware sim owned), I would like to know what has caused this to happen - I did recently upgrade my PC, but unlocked and renewed all my licensed shortly after setting it up and nothing has changed on my end since that should cause un-allocation.

There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

The most common reason for that happening is people renaming their computer, which changes the ID of the machine.

It used to be quite difficult to accidentally rename, but it seems to have been made quite easy on Windows 8 and later. In fact in one of the major Windows 10 updates I was promoted to rename the computer, which also messes up things like Microsoft Office licensing as a friend of mine discovered recently.

Ah, you probably have it there! I did rename the PC, but didn't think it would cause an issue as I hadn't changed the name used for the folder tree (which is actually more annoying than the default computer name I was given as it has shortened my Microsoft ID and now looks ridiculous - but I digress).

Thanks for that!
