Can anyone explain how trains arriving at Attercliffe Sidings are dealt with, please? I can't get my head round what is stated in the Sheffield Manual.

Here's a few questions.

Trains arriving from Sheffield: can the loco appear at the North end or does it have to come out at the South end where it went in?

Trains arriving from the North end: similar question to the above, but ends reversed.

Can trains depart from the opposite end to where they entered without any shunting having to be done?

I hope someone can clarify my confusion.

in real life Attercliffe sidings are two through roads with no intermediate pointwork at the north other than what appears on the panel. the loco has to drop out the sidings to run round

at the south end there is a scissor crossover (hand points) which provides access to both roads, the mainline and headshunt (the headshunt is blocked by a sleeper chained to the rails and isn't used regularly), and Attercliffe scrap siding. the scissor crossing is protected by stop boards from all directions and controlled by a Shunter.

a train arriving from the south will drop into one of the roads, run round via the north end (briefly coming back on panel) then run round via the other road and use the scissors and scrap siding to run round (not appearing on the panel).

in answer to your overall question - its impossible to run round without appearing at the north end of the panel

edit: ive attached a crudely drawn diagram. the off/on panel divide is shown with a blue line.
