Newbie here. Sorry if this has been answered before, I did a search for "display switch id" and didn't come up with any results related to how to (or whether you even can) do this in the program.

I notice in a number of screenshots throughout the site switch IDs on the route screen itself rather than a separate map/diagram. For instance, this shot from one of the Royston tutorial pages appears to show switch IDs in the interface.

Is this maybe an old option or edited into the screenshot? I don't find anything in the simulation options to allow this. I know you can right click on a switch to see its ID, but thought it might be useful to be able to toggle it on (especially when first learning).

Welcome

The Signal IDs that are in that image have been edited on. Every sim should have a signal number plan in the sim manual on the wiki. Most should be a searchable pdf so you can use a find function in your pdf view (As these are produced by various members, not all of them are). When I first started i would generally have this number map open somewhere in the background to refer to if needed

There are a couple small sims that have the numbers displayed on the panel (either fixed or switchable) but they are an exception rather than the norm

Just a minor nitpick, when you say switch to me in the context of railways, I think switches and crossings - which are points, basically. The switch is the movable part. Points number plans are not a thing sadly, finding points numbers is much, much more of a pain

The objects you're referring to are signals, not switches. As TUT says, 'switch' is an alternative name for points.
