Just read in this month's Modern Railways that the token instruments on this line have been removed, to allow a half hourly service in future. Does anyone know if any semaphores have been removed as well?

Changes:

Poppleton 11 (up home now colour light)
Hammerton 1 (down distant now colour light - under a separate scheme)
Cattal 14 (up home now colour light)
Whixley has some new colour lights which did away with the fixed semaphore distant for Cattal

The rest of the semaphores remain.

Thanks; I'm tempted to have a drive round there over the holidays to get some photos in. Might pick up the Scarborough line as well if there's time.

Reading around the internet, H1 was wire-worked. Presumably that's the reason why it was changed separately; there can't be many of those left now?

You could be right, it was done a lot earlier than the recent scheme.

Foxfield on the up and the down is still wire worked. Possibly Limestone and Kirksanton gateboxes as well.

I recall Furness Vale nr Manchester on the Buxton line has mechanical distants and think chapel-en-le-frith also has one!

also, the lines around the North East (Norton East/West/South comes to mind) still retain slotted mechanical ones. (though not for much longer)

Kirkham Abbey also has a wire worked distant on the up, as does peak forest.

Whats the new method of working on the single lines then?
