Is there a limit on the train length of shunt movement, where it enters or exits?

Ideally, the length of the two necks at Carlisle station

Example A
Class 08 plus a number of GUV
Platform 5 to Neck (south) to Collier Lane

Example B
Class 08 plus a number of GUV
SA to Neck (north) to Wall

A quick seed test for the shunt neck says 314m

A test of the north neck says you can get a single loco or vehicle in it.

Entry/exit locations have no length limit.

Theres no limit of the distant a shunt movement can run, however it ideally needs to start and end off sim due to its random nature of entry.

When you say 'Shunt movement' are you asking about semi-random shunt moves, as described here: https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Wiki/Show?page=usertrack:ttuse:shunt_moves ? Or something else?

If you are, it needs to enter the simulation and then exit again. So Collier Lane-> Neck-> Collier Lane is fine. They don't necessarily need to enter and exit at the same location (so Kingmoor Yard-> Kingmoor Depot would also be fine). There's no limit on the length, but for obvious reasons those types of moves don't go far.

They should not be used for activities (Joins, divides etc.), or where the finish within the simulation. So starting them at Platform 5 or Siding A wouldn't work, neither would having one finish at the wall.

I assume the shunt neck of 314m is the south neck, as I described above in the example between Platform 5 and Collier Lane

I knew the north neck was short, as it is only intended for a loco to swap routes / run round

The remaining entry and exit points then become dictated by the maximum (non-passenger) train length for Kingmoor Yard, at 384m and 448m

No, I have used the term Shunt movement, but I cannot think what I really should have used
These are planned moves

In my example A
The Class 08 has joined with a number of GUV
It then moves to the south neck, reverses
It then propels the stock to Collier Lane, where it exits

I have now started on the Carlisle station shunt movements, wow was that a challenge!

This is odd
I have trains longer than the simulation advises that can be accepted into platforms

The first is a Class 47/4 with total length 156m
The simulation display shows P5 142M
However this entire train appears to fit
Once it has stopped I can then detach the loco

Not that I am complaining, why the difference?

I had edited the GSW Class 47/4 Mark 1 sets so that they met the P7 and P8 lengths
Does the same apply there?

Looks like the simulation label for P5 is incorrect; the Sectional Appendix shows this as being 165m. The track circuit length for P5 corresponds to this. Mantis 32755 raised to change the label.

The lengths of the other bays are correct, give or take a couple of metres.

Just by luck, the first one I work on and I find the one in the WTT that has a long shunt movement into P5!

Besides from errors in the track circuit length, it is also possible that the track circuit is longer than the platform (i.e. the signal is some distance away from the platform end). I can't find whether this is the case for platform 5 & 6 because there is such a curve in the platform that the photos I can find on the web don't show the signal.

In that case the train will fit but needs to advise its passengers not to alight from the rear carriage.
