Sorry to be a pain but I recently started a West Yorkshire sim and have a developed a slight eyesight problem. I've looked at the West Yorkshire Forum posts and nobody else seems to have asked this question.
I have 5R93 heading for the Crofton East Spur but this location isn’t obvious to me and it isn’t labelled on the layout or the signal number plan. The manual explains how the crossing gates are controlled but there is no mention of the Spur.
Do I need to route this and subsequent trains into the Depot?

I believe it is Crofton Depot.

Given the nature of the crossing, it's surprising that it hasn't been converted to (or operated) something more like Heck Lane, Gringley Road (near Retford on the Worksop sim) or Appleford on SwinDid.

Guess the local farmer has always made sure that their views are taken into consideration....

Yes, a good point. It is definitely surprising given the location. Perhaps it is down to 'politics'...

So it's probably best to initiate the crossing procedure early in that case isn't it?

I assume that I should only send one train at a time into the Spur too or doesn't it matter?

Originally it was two UWCs and Crofton was still a lightly used Pway depot. It was then manned after a number of near miss and misuse cases came to light and Crofton became busy as a traincare depot.

Then after a couple of further near misses, the interlocking was finally added (prior to that the gates weren't interlocked, it was a phonecall to Oakenshaw box and a collar on protecting signals.) And you end up with the current arrangements. I suspect the reason for it not being MCB is the cost of having to install it and work it into the interlocking, and even then,the depot crossing still has to be worked in some way.

Bugsy- in answer to your question, I normally request a closure as a train passes monkhill Station, and as they pass Horbury junction or enter at Westgate. IRL closing them early isnt much of an inconvience as the only road users are depot staff, the odd walker and the farmer.

When playing this sim, the trick is to know when to lower the barriers so you don't cause too much delay to road users, but at the same time don't cause an approaching train to stop.

For trains coming from the Knottingley direction, I hit the button as the train passes Sportsfield Crossing. For trains coming through Wakefield Westgate, I hit it as the train passes the platform at Wakefield. For trains coming off of the Monk Bretton single line, I do it once the first track circuit coming off the line is illuminated red. Trains coming round the curve from Normanton - I can't remember where I do it, but it's definitely before the train comes off the curve.

I've never had a phone call complaining of an excessive delay to road users at the crossing, anyway.

Sherlock Holmes would do that. He knew that if you asked someone something outright they would give you nothing. But if you deliberately told them that something you knew was wrong was right, they would fall over themselves to tell you the right answer. :-)

There's a good example of it in The Six Napoleons.
