Doncaster South Frequently Asked Questions

Do you think you've found a bug? Or if you have a problem running the simulation, check through this thread first.

Remember timetables are dealt with in the relevant timetable thread.

Please read the following information:-

- The manual contains some very pertinent information about TD stepping and combined track sections
- More than most other simulations, you really do need to read the timetable for every train. There is no obvious pattern to trains that stop at Retford, Newark, and Grantham. Freight trains as well need regulating at any of the loops depending on traffic and timekeeping.

Great work here everyone.

Just a small era query but I’m fairly sure whitehouse Lane and Barrel crossings were closed by 2019.

Network Rail Level Crossing Website (here shows Whitehouse Lane as still operational. Barrel lane no longer appears on the list/map but there is no indication as to when it shut
A UWC being closed is not a significant change to require a completely new era to be created.

Sorry, but I'm having one of those "senior" moments as I can't find the orange LEN button which shows the Loop and siding lengths.

Could someone tell me where it is please.

Oh no a new era isnt what I was suggesting at all, I just believe that they have both been removed in the 2017 onwards era. Im not being picky but ive driven over the route for quite some time and can confirm they are both closed.

Correct though. Closed abruptly, albeit temporarily, in 2015 due to the amount of deliberate crossing misuse. Then closed all together a couple of years after with the promise of a ramped bridge to replace it. Although showing on that interactive map, the spreadsheet is more up to date.

Was just wondering what the lines between platforms 1 and 3 at NNG represent. Initially I thought it was a panel boundary but it seems not as that is further north at Retford.

Mantis 33975 for Barrel Lane. I'm checking with my sources for Whitehouse Lane as it's odd that it would show as operational if it's not.

[Edit] Source says Whitehouse Lane closed. Maybe somebody could inform Network Rail! Ticket updated with this crossing as well.

Yes to it being a barrow crossing, but it's hard wired into the interlocking to give appropriate warning time which I doubt would be removed even if it's unused.

Depends what side and that's from Network Rail Sectional Appendix dated June 2021

Grantham Platform Lengths

Platform 1 (Up Main) 290m
Platform 2 (Down Main) 289m
Platform 3 (Down Bay on Platform 4 side) 69.4m
Platform 3 (Down Bay on Platform 2 side) 95m
Platform 4 (Up/Down Slow) 249m

Note for Platform 3: (Drivers viewing point of D21 signal 249m
back to buffer stop)

Does that help?

Its a good 3 years since it closed too. I remember it well as they closed it but didnt bother removing the whistle boards which i reported on a regular basis until they were removed. Im underworked and overpaid as it is never mind having to blow the horn unnecessarily.

I have a query . Running the sim early hours (0100-0200), I had three TC failures. One of these occurred at sig 139 in the down directions (Eaton lane). Sig 141 in advance, then changed from red to yellow, implying that Grove Road Crossing (CCTV) was lowered and cleared. This crossing is, I believe, operated from Ranskill Loop gate box.
If this TC failure occurred in reality, would this activate the crossing automatically ? or would the crossing gate keeper lower the barriers the crossing ?
What I find odd, is as it was a TC failure, why would the crossing keeper lower the barriers ,assuming he knew it wasn't a train approaching ?

In reality if it was an isolated TC showing occupied then the crossing keeper would probably be sensible enough to make enquiries and not lower the barriers. For sim purposes, these are not crossings so you are not penalised for the "barriers" being down. Having the sim be more intelligent would increase the complexity exponentially, risking detrimental issues to the sim, so the KISS principle applies.
