BIRMINGHAM NEW STREET 13th May 1990 - 28th September 1990 Monday to Friday
{Final file nameto be:- <Birmingham New Street 13th May 1990 - 28th September 1990> }

This timetable is dedicated to Mr. Ron Derry who was Chief Signalling Inspector at Birmingham New Street.
TIMETABLE NOTES

The timetable must be run in the 1976-1991 era. This should be automatically selected at start-up.
It is *not* recommended to have failures or delays selected.

GENERAL HINTS
* Read. The. Timetable!
* Read. The. Sim. Manual. https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Wiki/Show?page=simulations:newstreet
* Read the timetable and the notes on each train. The notes are especially important for the Centre Signalman as they give extra information about stopping positions and activities.
** Look out for overlap setting buttons (grey triangles with purple labels). These are explained in the sim manual.
* Read the timetable

SOUTH 1
* If trains are more than a couple of minutes early at Grand Jn or Proof House Jn, liaise with the Centre Signalman to ensure that the train doesn't get in the way of something else.
* Several trains are booked to run on the Grand Jn Line so pay attention at Aston.

SOUTH 2
* Trains may use unexpected platforms at International, especiallty those that terminate. Read the timetable carefully
* Several trains are booked to run on the Grand Jn Line so pay attention at Stetchford.

CENTRE
* There are lots of engine changes, runrounds and assorted shunting moves. Read the timetable and notes carefully so you know what bit of which train is going where. This is especially important mid-morning when you have up to three engine changes happening at once. Sticky notes are invaluable here.
* At start-up there are trains in certain sidings. Check F2 so you know what is hiding where.
* Check carefully which reversing point to use for engines, especially at the north end. Remember that there are short 'wrong road' routes to LOS at both ends of the station. Be careful so you don't give yourself a Mexican!
* Some shunt routes may not work as expected. You need to use via buttons, as with main signals) and generally use the red arrows and entry/exit buittons.
* Don't change platforms unless you really have to.
* Try to anticipate moves, especially for shunting, but don't pull off too early.
* All of the main aspect signals, and some shunt routes, at New St station have 120 second timneouts. If you are joining trains you should cancel the mid-platform signal in plenty of time.
* Some trains may not be quite where the track circuits say they are (especially right in the middle of the platforms) so you may need to use the call-on signal in the middle of the platform to get the trains to join correctly.
* The interlocking is very fussy, especially about via buttons.

NORTH
* Don't give the Stourbridge slot too early as it locks up Galton Jn.
* Some of the routes around Soho and Perry Bar Jns have some very inconvenient overlaps, so be careful when setting routes in this area.

This timetable has ben written using the relevant WTTs for the area & period as well as the WCML(south) & West Midlands Trip Notice & also a Birmingham New Streeet arrival & departure book for the summer of 1990 showing all the platforms the trains are booked to use. I'd like to pay special thanks to Noel(noisynoel) & AndyG for their work on sorting out all the parcel & mail vans shunts. Also thanks goes to the following who helped out in the timetable tests:- KymriskaDraken(Kev), Alex103(Alex), AndyG, NoisyNoel(Noel), jc92(Joe) & if I've missed anyone apologise for that.
In total there are 1269 trains in this TT & the analyser shows 12 warnings. Users be warned that this timetable is busy right from the word go at midnight till around 02.00am where it goes quiet for a few hours before it starts to build up again for the morning peak. But please read the TT data for each train so you don't end up routing trains off their respected paths. It is essential that trains arrive in New Street at their booked time & platform as this TT is not very forgiving & trains arriving out of sequence or in the wrong platform may cause issues whereby users may have to abandon the game & resume agagin from the last saved snapshot. Anyone who has any issues please list them on this forum thread. This TT has just been sent up for moderator approval & hopefully will be available to be downloaded soon.

There are a handful of things users will need to be mindful of:-

1. There are 2 freights which enter on the Up Grand Jn line at Bescot bound for Wolverhampton Steel Terminal which requires banking between Perry Barr West Jn & Soho North Jn. When these 2 trains stop at NS279 signal a few minutes later 0T55 which is the Bescot Area Assistant Locomotive will enter & join onto the rear of the train[you'll need to set the route from NS272 to NS279 & tell the driver to PSAD for it to proceed onto the rear of the train & couple].The banking loco returns LD to Bescot via a reverse behind NS331 on the Down Through Sdg at Soho.
2. Monument Lane Loop, there are about 7 trains booked to stop in there to allow other trains to pass, mainly Cl.5. However 1A39 does call in Monument Lane which is an empty NPCCS service from Camden CS or Willesden CS which conveys postal vehicles for turning & runs via Stechford - Aston - Perry Barr South Jn - Perry Barr West Jn - Soho East Jn with a stop at Soho North Jn before going into Monumenty Lane loop. Beware of these trains cos if you keep them on the Up Stour they will stop & then you'll have to route trains past them using Monument Lane Loop.
3. 5G52 1849 FX/FO ECS Stafford - Soho DED also runs via an odd route. The train is booked to recess in Watery Lane Loop, but that will only work with Wolverhampton chained to New Street. The train goes into the the Goods Loop & stops at NS327. The train when it departs from NS327 actually reverses behind NS325GPS to go onto the Down Through Sdg at Soho. This is the way the train is TT'd in the WTT so great care is needed with this one.

Is the stopping position for 1V25MX0043H in P11 correct?

5V25SHNT overhangs the platform by just a couple of metres as it comes in and refuses to join.
Abandoning the TT makes it move up a bit further, clearing the points, and reinstating it makes it join.

Can you explain how to 1M43 loco change is suppose to occur?
The electric OM43 is supposed to arrive in platform 8 one minute before the diesel hauled 1M43. When 1M43 arrives, the diesel is detached and supposedly leaves, but isn't the electric 0M43 in the way?

The diesel is 0Z43 and should indeed be routed out first - when I tried it, it TRTSed early (but I think it only does so by chance).

5M18 also has such a timing issue - its loco arrives at 01:50 but the train is supposed to depart at 01:43, but I think this one will be sorted out as soon as you get the sleeper 1S19 back into P5 vice P6 as then it won't block 0M18's route into 1SG anymore.

It is not any different from the normal operation described in the wiki, except that you need to wait 3 minutes after pressing the F button before the levers will move.

(edit: the F button on the panel of course, not F on your keyboard which does 5 minutes fast forward.)

Okay, its the 3 minute delay I wasn't aware of (couldn't find it in the manual).

You'll get a message in the message box that the frame can be operated after 180 seconds.

Edit: apologies for the confusion, it's 120 seconds for frame 710! Frame 711 has a 180 second timeout instead.

I have another problem: loco 0O03 does not join onto train 1O03 (1P03MX0420, not on Monday).

The two keep 'bouncing off each other' (repeatedly showing "waiting for joining train", "train in front", or "moving at 0mph",) but the real problem only becomes apparent when abandoning the TT of 0O03: the coaches are standing so close to signal NS225 (near the end of P5) that the loco isn't comfortable coming closer.

After abandoning 0O03 I can talk it past the signal. After about a minute it will move up a few metres until its status is again "train 1O03 in front", reinstating it then makes it join.

I've been told that the train will be replatformed to P5 in a future release of the TT, but for now, here is the workaround ^

Some TT edits have been done so far in view of the changes made to the sim. Both 1S19 & 1V33 are booked according to the summer 1990 Birmingham New Street arrival & departure book to go into P5, but p wasn't long enough to hold the train due to the length of P4C which didn't exist in the era required for this TT. P4C was originally a loco sdg long enough to hold a couple of locos. In the release version this has been fixed so when the next TT update is released those 2 sleeper trains will use P5 & not P6 as booked.

I've found three pairs of trains so far that are supposed to arrive in a different order in the next simulation... if the shown timings for Coventry and Four Oaks are right.

3B04 somehow has to pass 2G500530 or get 10 minutes delay at Coventry. The same happens with 1M15 and 1A05. In either case letting one pass the other at International seems to be the most sensible solution (except that 1M15 and 1A05 are booked to leave from the same platform 4 just a minute after each other.)

5N29 goes towards Four Oaks shortly after 2N02, but there is no place for them to pass on the Aston sim, and gets about 5 minutes delay (but would continue to run behind 2N02 until Lichfield TV if Aston were chained.)

Whilst testing the New Street TT we came across the problem of trains entering from Four Oaks whereby the first few trains entered on time then after 3 or 4 trains had entered they started getting later & later entering the New Street sim up to a certain degree & then the delays started reducing again. This was put down to a missing signal for this era on the Aston Sim & this sim. As a result no resolution for this could be found.

Yes some trains go through all that messing about when joining. But thankfully they are in the minority.

I got Sunday on my playthrough; 0M87 the RR from 5M87 seems to have divided from the wrong end of the train (it wants to head to the north end and is facing down having come in from the Coventry end) and so sits there blocked in by its own stock
There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

The problem here appears to be that 1M87 became 5M87 on entry to the platform, therefore the loco is now at the 'wrong end'.
The sim thinks that the loco is at the south end of the platform due to the new ID, ans therefore shows that the stock is in the way to allow the run round to happen.
Therefore the divide for 5M87 to make the loco run round needs to be DER: 0M87 J:0M87 (detach to the rear, then joins with)
Alternatively, the train needs to stay as 1M87 until the loco has run round the set as 0M87, then become 5M87 once this operation has been completed. 1M87 will therefore show activities as : DEF: 0M87, J:0M87, and 0M87 will show J:1M87 N: 5M87 once the join has been completed.
Hope that makes sense.
I haven't checked but this may happen to other trains as well if the same way run round is applied after the train has changed ID's.

Cheers
Phil

Which day of the week are you running? You can see this from the first message in the F7 message box. I had no problems with it in the Thursday and Friday timetable.

If a train has come from Coventry, it is facing north. The train does not change direction unless you tell it to, or it has performed the final join and is ready to depart. DEF is correct if you want to detach from the side that was front on arrival.

Be aware that ACI may insert the code of the departing part too early - it changes 1M87 to 5M87 if it sees 1M87 and 0M87 in the same platform, which will happen if you interpose the loco in the other half of the platform (through which it should leave.)

I think you must mean Monday as there isn't a Sunday in the timetable, only Monday through to Friday. Don't remember ever haviong the problem with 1M87 as you say you have had during all the testing sessions we ran & there was quite a few of them.

1M87 on the MO timetable has different activities at BHM than the MX version of the train does.
Its shown as N:5M87, which looks to be what is causing the problem with the loco run around, as 5M87 is interposed when the train arrives at the platform as per the timetable instruction.
