Scoring - will there be a penalty in these cases? 11/01/2023 at 21:36 #150119

Hello,

I was wondering if the scoring system will give me a penalty in these cases:

1 - A train is delayed at one station where trains behind are unable to be rerouted without reversing their direction. Will all these trains give a penalty due to lost minutes?

2 - I have issued an arriving train a new platform. I change this is in the timetable for the arriving train however. When it departs again will I receive a penalty since it is now departing from the wrong platform?

3 - A train should leave my area on the slow line. If I for various reason, for example the rerouting issue in #1 above, transfer it to the fast line is that ok or should must I amend its timetable for this to happen without penalty?

I'm not a SimSig developer so I can't answer these questions definitively, but from my >10 years experience of SimSig, I wouldn't expect the scoring system to be very clever (no offence).

1) Most probably, yes. The scoring system probably treats each train individually, rather than taking the whole situation into account.

2) I think the scoring system only takes arrivals into account when it comes to platforms. I wouldn't expect departures to be penalised as this would cause a double penalisation for a single wrong platform instance.

3) I don't think the scoring system looks at pathing quite like you describe. Certainly routing a passenger train onto a goods line would incur a penalty, but not fast/slow lines as this more than likely occurs in real life with no consequence.

Again, don't take these answers as gospel, I honestly have no idea and I personally don't pay much attention to the scoring system.

Generally there's no penalty for 3). However, if there are intermediate stations on the way out of the area that the train is booked to call at, make sure there are platforms on the Fast lines, otherwise the standard wrong-route call and penalty will apply.

Or jump the timetable.

Thank you MrSuttonmann,

I do pay some attention to the scoring as I try to keep it as high as possible.

What do you mean by jumping the timetable?
