Multiplayer just won't work 02/03/2023 at 18:10 #150711

Hello,

I've played a fair bit of SimSig, picking up a few things along the way, and I would like to play multiplayer with a few friends.

However, every time I try to host, my friends get disconnected immediately, without ever giving me the option to add them to the simulation.

When I try to join their sims, I get disconnected at exactly 11 seconds nearly every time.

I've tried everything, and have attempted to join over 30+ Servers by now.

I can't get where its going wrong.

Any help appreciated.

Sound likely that whoever is starting the game as the server, has not set up Port Forwarding. There is information in the wiki here on Port Forwarding

As echo'd above it sounds like port forwarding on the hosts end has not been set up. if there are 4 of you altogether alternatively you can set up a Hamachi network and play via that.

I'm trying to make sense of the port forwarding article, but it's confusing me a bit.

I understand how to find my 2 IPs, but how do I physically get it to forward the port

In the port forwarding section of your router's admin page.

If you tell us the make and model of your router then somebody may be able to give specific instructions for that router. If you don't know exactly, knowing your ISP would be a start.

From the linked Wiki page:

- http://portforward.com/ is a useful site for configuring specific routers. The site tries to direct you to a link to buy their automatic set-up software (PFConfig) at a number of stages in the process. However, if you keep searching on each page there is always a link somewhere to the next stage in setting up your router manually, avoiding the need to make an unnecessary purchase.

So I'm with EE as my ISP now, and I believe the wire to my house is BT?

I'll take a look at these links

Do you have ADSL or 'full fibre' and what model of EE router / smart hub / etc
You might also have EE 4G broadband and not be using the BT wire for internet at all.

Instructions for EE 'Brightbox v1'

Instructions for EE 'smart hub' (fibre router)
