Hello all, Just a question about the signals at Shepreth Jn, I would check on SimSig but I've long lost the old Cambridge simulation so unable to check on there, but when going from Cambridge to Shepreth, at the junction you fork off to the right with a 30 (IIRC? or 40?) mph turn off restriction, is it an approach release, flashing signals or, if the route is set right through, then just greens throughout? I believe from Cambridge the linespeed is 75mph, down to 30 I'd have thought it might be approach released but may be it is, looking at an old cab ride going the other way (From Shepreth to Cambridge though) from the late 1980's it appears it was just green signals throughout, so I assume it is in the Up direction? Firstly, it's Shepreth Branch Junction, not Shepreth Junction. Yes, approach released on the Up (and was so in the sim). The sim had 20 over the pointwork, then 50 round the corner towards Foxton. The Down was 55 round the curve and then 30 over the junction. I need to dig out a Sectional to see the current limits. I used to work in the building (a converted school) in the V of the junction, with the driveway coming off Granhams Road immediately west of the level crossing. From my office I could see all the way down to the signal box at Shepreth Branch Junction. One Monday morning my boss came in with a visitor. He said something about the land "stretching all the way to the ... who's stolen the signal box!". It had been decommissioned and removed over the weekend. Log in to reply |

The current speeds are 90 on the Up Main, 30 through the points onto the Up Royston which is 50mph, then steps up with roughly 1-mile distances to 60, 80, 90. On the down it's 90mph through Foxton, then with roughly mile-distances again 80, 60|EMU90, 40, and shortly after that down to 30mph over the junction. Then 90 on the down main before dropping to 80 at the start of the down slow, and 35 through the station. In 1982 it was the same for both directions: 70mph on the Mains, 30mph through the points, 40 in the curve, then 60.
