Falmouth Dockyard loop line 29/04/2025 at 15:03 #160936

How long is the RR loop line between No.1 and No.2 GF? There's nothing in the wiki so I'm not sure what the maximum length of train that could be timetabled into there, to RR, is.

I would measure it by hand using old satellite imagery but I can't find any in high enough detail or where the X-overs at either end are not in shadow.
Thanks :3

By trial and error with trains entering from Falmouth Dockyard into the FD Loop stopping FX, myself looking at the Falmouth #2 lever frame light for "Train on Loop Points" to see if it is fully accommodated in the loop, then exiting Falmouth Dockyard, modifying the length and having it enter again. Once a maximum length was found, having it reverse at Falmouth Town before returning to the loop and dockyard confirms the max length applies in both directions by looking at the "Train on Points" light on Falmouth #1 lever frame.
And
By using the seed-truncation method, whereby you seed a train you know or suspect is too long to fit behind a signal on a dead end piece of track, then let SimSig truncate it on seed to the maximum permitted length for that section of track. Seeding at FD3 in this case, which is the hand signal from the loop at Falmouth #2 ground frame, using a 0m seeding gap and a 500m length, confirms that the maximum length of a train to be fully accommodated in the Falmouth Loop is 198m

The train now standing on platform 2, should be on the rails
