In Peterborough what is the small orange circle next to sig 449 to the right of Peterborough P4? Is it to allow a warner route to be set if no overlap available? If so, how is it used with and without ARS?

It sounds like you're talking about a TRTS indicator. Warner route selection is by use of the yellow triangle, where provided. The User Manuals / Wiki should have this information in.

Yes, as GeoffM says it is the TRTS indicator. Right Away, TRTS stands for Train Ready To Start. Platform staff would press a button which would alert you in the signalbox that the train standing on that platform (in this case a Northbound train in Platform 4) is ready to depart, as in platform duties have been completed, the doors are closed and locked and the train will move off once the signal is showing anything but red. If you have downloaded the sound files from the User-contributed area of the Downloads/Uploads section of this website then you will hear a buzzing sound and the 'small orange circle' that you so eloquently described will become a solid flashing white circle so you should, as long as it's OK to do so, set the route for the train as the timetable shows. There are TRTS indicators also built in to the other platforms rather than off the end of the platform. As has been stated, while not activated the indicator is a hollow orange circle; the fill colour is the same as the background. Therefore, if the indicator is built into an orange platform and it is not flashing, you have an orange hollow circle on an orange background (i.e. you can't see it). However, you do see a flashing white disc in the platform when the TRTS is activated. Just to correct, TRTS does NOT mean the doors are closed. Everything else is completed, but the doors close after the signal displays a proceed aspect. At platforms where the platform staff cannot see the signal, an "OFF" indicator may be displayed on the platform. Then, the guard will close the doors and send the driver 2 bells (time to go!). At some locations where you have driver only operated trains, and the driver cannot see all of the passenger doors, the platform staff will also press a "Right Away" button when the doors have successfully closed, to display "RA" next to the signal so the driver can see it, and then the train will depart. The signaller does not see any kind of RA indicator.

Thanks chaps. I’m familiar with the white flashing dot TRTS indicators on the platform ends but hadn’t, until you pointed it out, notoced that the orange circle next to the signal changed to a flashing white dot when TRTS at the right-hand end of P4. Incidentally, I blame my partner for getting me hooked on SimSig. She’s a daily commuter and innocently asked a few months ago “what do you think RA means?” I hadn’t a clue as, at that time, my interest and knowledge of trains and signalling was almost nil. However, I discovered the meaning of RA, CD and TRTS on the internet and I also came across SimSig. The rest, as they say, is history. Log in to reply |
