Stuck at home for the next couple of weeks helping Mrs. Mad Mac recover from a knee replacement and decided to get back into SimSig. Situation I have is that I got a barrier failure at Greenland Mill, so decided to caution trains through the section (examine line). I stop the first Down train at W121, tell him to examine the line and off he goes at about 20 MPH. He then gets to the next signal (DT5) and stops. And stays there. Ad nauseam, as they say in Latin. Train list shows it as "Waiting at red signal DT5". I ended up removing the train. Next one through, same thing (incidentally, the S&T haven't turned up there as yet!). I suspect that the issue is that DT5 isn't actually a Westbury signal, so he can't report back to me. Thoughts?

I haven't really had many Level Crossing failures during my time of SimSigging however based on my experiences of handling failures, I would probably have done the same thing as you by asking the first down train at W121 to examine the line & pass signal at danger. If it occurred that the next signal was off the panel and the train would have ended up causing a backlog, I would have done everything I could to get him moving. In this case I would have gone into the Train List (F2) and told the driver to pass the signal at danger ("PSAD"). I would consider telling the driver to pass the signal at danger and examine the line (so he would travel at a limited speed) however this would again cause him to stop at the next signal which might cause delays for a further trains behind.

I had a slightly similar problem on North London Line when I'd sent a train off to Stratford High Level and then it appeared to get held up somehow, so I had to tell the driver to PSAD otherwise a serious backlog would have occurred.
