Just a quick introduction, "NorthernWarrior" is Vern Moorhouse aka BigVern on the UKTS boards and Vern on the Auran Trainz forums.

Some of you may know I've been around the train sim scene a long time, even going back to the early pre-MSTS days.

I kind of drifted away from the signalling simulations to focus on the driver sim side of things but recently decided to download and try SimSig again. This actually followed a visit to the real signalling simulator in the South Wales Signalling Centre Cardiff, as part of a team day for the West Country Train Running Controllers (I work for NR in Swindon Control). That was a great couple of hours even though between the six of us we had about four trains stood in each direction after the moderator threw assorted SPAD's and axle counter failures at us.

So I decided to re-acquaint myself with SimSig and currently working through Scotland Central and Exeter (the latter being of interest as part of my TRC area at work). Really enjoying the experience, given what the SIAM guy is still charging for some of his stuff, the fact SimSig is freeware/donationware is incredible.

The one I would like to see in future is maybe something based on Inverness. Maybe not the heaviest trafficked area but, as with the SIAM Inveress games, a chance to recreate a little nostalgia from the past.

Welcome back, Vern! You must have seen the TRE simulators at Cardiff then, only recently installed for the Newport resignalling. Unfortunately I rarely have anything to do with the TRE simulators anymore.

Geoff.

Oh, the hours I spent with SIAM in the early days on those floppy discs! I think my first was Salisbury 1952, and expanded to include Reading, Manchester, Birmingham NS, Inverness 1982 and quite a number of others. I had almost forgotten about them - is SIAM still going?
Anyway, not a patch on SimSig (and neither are the other pretenders either) and I agree it is a great resource for a donation. Not only that, but the fabulous community with whom we can pose questions, seek advice, banter with or just chat about a common interest makes it much more than most of the others too.
Having only found SimSig about 18 months ago, I dont remember you from previously Vern, but nice to have you back with us.

Simon
