Registration for the Meet

If you wish to attend the meet, could you please register using the link available from Future Events section of the SimSig web-site. It is important that people register even though there is no charge for the event so that we can advise the venue of the likely numbers attending. This will enable them to plan their catering accordingly.

How To Get There

Train

Derby is served from various parts of the country by CrossCountry trains . A direct service is available from London on the Midland Main Line, provided by East Midlands Trains . Lots of local services mean access from other cities is easy. The pub is about 300 yards walking distance from the railway station main entrance: go out of the station's main entrance, turn right, walk across the car park entrance and up to the main road, cross the road at the pedestrian crossing, turn right, follow this road parallel to the railway and the pub is on the left-hand side shortly before the junction.

Bus

Bus services 1,1A( DO NOT USE THE F1 service as this goes a different route),6 and 73 run between Derby Bus Station and Derby Rail Station, passing The Brunswick. Information about these services is available from the Derby Connected web-site.

Coach

Coaches operated by National Express coaches use the new Riverlights bus station, so proceed as for local buses above. The local buses to the meet go from the same building.

Car

There is no parking at the pub itself however there are several short- and long-stay car parks within a mile of it - SatNav users are advised to use the postcode DE1 1RU. There is on-street parking for up to 4 hours in some of the streets close to the venue. If you're staying overnight then your hotel or B&B might have parking.

The Meet

Times

Those with laptops for use by the SimSig public, please arrive by 11:30 to set up. If you are fetching your laptop you are advised to set up a separate User Account for the meet so that your personal information and data cannot be accessed. There will be someone at the meet (fingers crossed) who will be able to grant temporary licences if anyone's machine does not have a licence for a sim that is to be used for multiplay and chaining.

Those without laptops, please wait until noon when (hopefully) everything will be ready.

Entrance Fee

There is no entrance fee for this meet. However, If you are going to attend, could you please register using the link available from Future Events section of the SimSig web-site. so that we can advise the Brunswick of the likely demand for bar food.

What's Included

Shared access to multiplayer simulations.

Where To Stay

The Smart Aston Court Hotel is very close to both the railway station and the venue.

The Hallmark Inn is a short distance further than the Aston Court.

Please offer other recommendations if you know of further suitable accommodation.

Friday night

Please offer recommendations. Previous years have included a meal at a Mexican restaurant followed by drinks at one or more local pubs.

Saturday night

The Everest once again benefited from several hungry SimSiggers seeking a post-meeting curry.

Sunday

There is no visit arranged to date.

What actually happened

Simulations In Use: Wimbledon / Feltham.

A select gathering of 19 people set up the bank of laptops to run a Wimbledon/Feltham chain with the session starting with an early afternoon sim time to give us a chance of hitting the afternoon peak. It took a little longer than usual to get started because of issues with loader compatibility but we got fired up shortly before 13:00. There was a short break just after 14:00 while those still wishing to eat got their orders in before the kitchen closed at 14:30. Things finally ground to a halt after 17:00 when a technical problem threw a spanner into the workings of the chain. Thanks to JamesN and IrishDave for the pre-meet preparation and then their hard work in looking after the multiplay session while the rest of us enjoyed ourselves.

We were pleased to see The Boss on this side of the Atlantic. He took these photos at the meet:

We were also pleased to receive a message at the meet that Clive Feather had been presented with a grandchild on the morning of the meet - probably a good enough reason for not being present!

After the meet, a motley crew descended on the Everest, the traditional post-meet curry house.

As a final note, seven people signed up to attend the meet through the Events section of the SimSig website and were no-shows without any notice or warning. There is the capability to cancel the registration through the Events section if people are unable to attend. While there is no impact on the individual who does not attend if they do not bother to cancel their registration, it does have other impacts.

Firstly someone else wishing to attend may not be able to register as the meet may show as fully booked, denying them the chance to join the fun.

Secondly, SimSig has managed to build up a good relationship with the venues that it uses because it delivers what it promises - numbers due to attend are advised before the meet so that the venue can make the appropriate arrangements in regard to e.g. catering and the bills are paid on time. When over a quarter of those signed up to attend a meet do not show without any notice or warning, it damages the credibility of SimSig and also the personal reputation of those who have made the arrangements with the venue.
