Centre Panel

Panel Description

This area covers Derby station and its immediate approaches.

Immediately south of the station, the line from Burton-on-Trent meets the line from Trent, Leicester and London St. Pancras. Also at the south end are Etches Park Carriage Sidings, used by East Midland Trains, with the Rail Research Centre on the opposite side.

Derby Station has 5 through platforms and short a bay (Platform 5), as well as separate through goods lines avoiding the platforms.

Etches Park CS

Telephone permission is required to send trains into Etches Park CS. There is a hand point and a signal (DY426) that applies to both roads: you do not need to concern yourself with this except that both "legs" of the trackwork will light white/red with a route set or track occupied.

Derby Station

TRTS is provided at Derby Station.

Calling-on (permissive working ) is allowed for passenger trains at Derby but ensure the trains will fit into the platform, and that you don't cause a nose-to-nose situation where each train is in the other's way.

The Goods lines between LNW Jn and Breadsall are permissive.

There are no overlaps at Derby station as it as a very low linespeed. Nevertheless, care should be taken to avoid overruns causing a collision: for example, do not have a route from 433 into platform 1, with a route from 471 into platform 2, and a route from platform 3 to 388. Overrunning either platform 1 or 2 in these cases would result in an almost immediate collision with anything passing on the adjacent route. There is no interlocking to prevent such moves, however.

Via buttons are provided at the south end of the station, and are mandatory if there are multiple routes between the entry and exit signals. They must not be used if only one route exists.

Shunting arrows are provided outside Derby station. Setting a route from a platform starter signal to a white exit arrow causes a shunting aspect to be shown to the driver, and the TD will not step. This allows the train description to stay with the train rather than with the light loco. Do not use the white arrows for normal passenger moves.

The platform code 'TL' is used to show that the train is not booked to use any specific line through the Derby area, use whichever line causes least delay to traffic in the area.

Etches Park has a hand point at the exit: both legs of the trackwork will light white/red but other than that you need not concern yourself with that fact.

Note that Signal 430 on the Down Main gives access only to platforms 1-3. Signal 442 must be used for trains for platforms 4-6; trains to platforms 1-3 may also be routed from this signal if the route via the crossover at Way & Works is required.

Note that the points in advance of 442 are locked as soon as a train passes the overlap of 416, and won't release until the train has come to a stand at 442. Where possible, set the route at 442 in good time, or avoid leaving the crossover at Way & Works reversed.

Station Yard CS

The hand point within Station Yard CS is controlled via a ground frame in the simulation. Before routing a train into the C.S. from the Station Junction end, set the hand point to the desired position. To signal a train out of the C.S. towards Station Junction, set a route from signal 457, then set the point to the desired position and then pull lever 2 to instruct the train to obey DY457.

Engine Sidings No.1

The frame can only be released when no route is set from signal 459, or towards 476. Lever 2 is a facing point lock, and must be reversed before the points are moved. You must then re-lock the points (move Lever 2 normal) before any slot can be given. Once a slot is given, a route can be set in/out of the Slum Siding from the signal corresponding to the slot.

Derby 4 Shed

A phone call must be made prior to signalling a train into the sidings.

Derby RTC

Derby RTC encompasses the Research and P. Way (Permanent Way) sidings at Derby. A phone call must be made prior to signalling a train into the sidings. Note that the sidings may request the train be sent to either line, so request permission early as the P.Way sidings are only accessible from Derby station.

Derby Way & Works Sidings

This timetable location refers to the Connect line (between DY425 and DY428), the actual sidings are outside the control area.
