S Humberside Overview

The simulation is split into seven panels. The sections below detail each panel and any operational requirements. (A detailed list of the actual signal boxes can be found in the Reference Section)

=

Grimsby Panel

Controls the line from Cleethorpes through Grimsby itself to Habrough. It also controls access to Grimsby Royal Docks and one end of the Grimsby Light Railway. The route contains several CCTV crossings, particularly on the Grimsby to Cleethorpes section. These all require to be manually lowered but do have an auto raise facility (only with TORR on).

Trains can enter from the diesel refuel line (1980 era only) and the carriage sidings at Cleethorpes. In addition, trains can enter and leave Marsh Jn sidings, Grimsby Royal Docks, TI Oxide and Christopher Smaller. The latter require use of the ground frame to allow trains access. Trains will call up once they are in position to access either Christopher Smaller or TI Oxide.

NOTE: Trains for TI Oxide and Christopher Smaller have to be routed via Immingham East and reverse. Trains cannot enter from the Pyewipe Road direction.

=

Immingham Panel

Starts at the Grimsby Light Railway and covers the entire Immingham area up to Ulceby. This is the most difficult panel. The layout is simple enough but due to the sheer number of locations in the Immingham area which are too numerous to show on the screen (there is somewhere in the region of 60 locations in and around the Immingham panel), it is a challenge to remember where they all are!! More comprehensive details can be found in the reference section below.

Calls are required to be placed to enter trains at almost all sidings and exit points. At Immingham Reception sidings and Lindsey Oil refinery, there is a choice of exits and the chargehand will inform you of which exit to use. There are penalties for routing trains into sidings without calling and also for routing to the incorrect exit. The Western Entrance also has a CCTV crossing that will need to be lowered for trains entering and exiting the Immingham West area.

=

Ulceby Jn Panel

Controls the Habrough-Brocklesby-Ulceby triangle and onwards Barnetby. It also covers the line from Ulceby to Barton on Humber. There are no entry points to deal with but there are several crossings on the Barton branch to deal with.

=

Barnetby Panel

Covers Barnetby station and Wrawby Junction. The line at Wrawby splits three ways with the southern route fringing with the entry/exit at Holton-le-Moor SB. Trains can also enter from Barnetby Up sidings. Trains for the Up sidings require the use of a ground frame to access them. Trains access the sidings from the Wrawby direction and will call to reverse into the sidings.

=

Gainsborough Panel

Covers the middle split from Wrawby Junction through Gainsborough Trent Junction and on towards Clarborough junction. This includes the entrance and exit of West Burton Power station. It fringes with West Holmes Junction SB on the Lincoln line to the south, Doncaster PSB to the north and Thrumpton (via Clarborough Junction) to the West. This panel is the quietest of the panels.

=

Scunthorpe East Panel

Covers the northern split from Wrawby junction to North Lincolnshire junction. This includes control of several entrances to the Scunthorpe steel works and the steel works coal handling plant. This is almost the same area as the real Scunthorpe East panel except it also includes the area through Elsham and Appleby. (More details on the various Steel Works entrances are given in the reference section.)

=

Scunthorpe West Panel

Covers the remainder of the Scunthorpe area from North Lincolnshire junction through Scunthorpe station and on to fringe with Doncaster PSB. It includes control to the entry of the single line section to Normanby Park, Roxby and Flixboroughas well as Scunthorpe goods yard, Scunthorpe station, and Keadby Canal Bridge (see next section for more details of the Canal Bridge).
